BMW 5 Series Wagon
The new 2001 BMW
5 Series Wagon continues the trend towards superior design
and generous luxuries, offering up two models this year -
the 525 iT Wagon and the 540 it Wagon. With four doors, a
seating capacity of five passengers, and plenty of extra room
in the back, the BMW 5 Series Wagon combines sensibility with
unquestionable power and performance.
Under the hood,
the 525 it Wagon headlines a six-cylinder engine with variable
timing DOHC and 184 horsepower. Standard transmission is five-speed
manual for those who enjoy driving a stick, with optional
automatic transmission available. The 540 it Wagon pushes
the limit with eight cylinders and a subsequent increase to
a remarkable 282 horsepower controlled by a responsive five-speed
automatic transmission. Drive type is two-wheel rear, powering
along on all-season touring tires. Not your average wagon.
As per BMWs
usual high standards, safety features are extensive and include
ABS brakes, front fog lights, and traction control. Other
basic safety measures listed are a driver side air bag, passenger
side air bag, side impact air bags, side head protection air
bags, and front head restraints. A rear wiper keeps the back
window clear for optimum visibility. With the well being of
youngsters in mind, each model is equipped with child safety
locks.
Luxuries are extensive
in the BMW 5 Series Wagons and range from air conditioning
to cruise/speed control, power door locks, dual power mirrors,
and power windows. A keyless entry system is included for
times when your hands are full, and the theft deterrent system
lends peace of mind when you are away from the vehicle. The
rear seat conveniently folds down to accommodate extra luggage,
equipment, or longer items such as skis and snowboards. An
AM/FM stereo with CD player is an enjoyable option, and the
BMW 540 it is graced with elegant leather seating (also optional
in the 525 it model).
Base list price
for BMW 5 Series 525 it Wagon: $37,200
