2002 BMW 740i Overview

The well-mannered new BMW 740i Sedan is an effortless mix of world-class performance, superior engineering, and luxury. Combined with clever design, a touch of flair, and solid safety specifications, this spacious five-passenger, four-door sedan is just as appropriate for families as it is for driving to work in style.

This year, the BMW 740i Sedan offers a standard package as will as Cold Weather Package, Premium Package, and Sport Package. Each adds something special to the base model.

With leading-edge design and engineering, the BMW maneuvers sharply and efficiently with a light alloy 4.4-litre, 32-vlavle eight-cylinder engine, four overhead camshafts, and variable valve timing. With all of that under its belt, it reaches a highly respectable 282 horsepower.

Standard transmission is five-speed automatic with adaptive transmission control. BMW also offers the option of five-speed three-mode transmission, which is a combination automatic/sport automatic/clutchless manual with adaptive transmission control.

As for safety, the BMW 740i Sedan packs ABS brakes, front fog lights, child safety locks and child safety seat tethers, and automatic fuel cut-off when an air bag is deployed. Another impact sensor unlocks all of the doors and switches on the hazard lights.

Inside the cabin, each vehicle is equipped with side impact air bags, driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, and side head protection air bags. Other standards include head restraints, interior motion detector, and a first aid kit in the rear seat backrest.

In the luxury department, the BMW 740i Sedan is graced with cruise control, automatic left/right climate control with programmable ventilation system, and a handy keyless entry system. Heated dual power mirrors, power door locks, and power windows add to the convenience.

The top-of-the-line anti-theft audio system features an AM/FM stereo with CD player and fourteen speakers. The six-disc CD player is mounted in the trunk. The clarity of sound is exquisite.

Other interior features listed are leather seating, wood trim and detailing, fourteen-way power front seats, and plenty of storage space and little conveniences that make a big difference.

Each BMW 740i Sedan is equipped with sixteen-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, and infrared reflecting windshield, and controls for audio, cruise control, cell phone, and air circulation mounted on the steering wheel.

The Adaptive Ride Package adds self-leveling suspension with rear anti-roll bars, and electronic damping control. Next, the Cold Weather Package includes heated front and rear seats plus a ski bag. The Convenience Package sports power folding auto-dim outside mirrors, and rear and side sunshades. Finally, the Sport Package beefs up performance specifications, adds eighteen-inch alloys, special trim and sport seats, and high-performance tires.
