2002 Chrysler Concorde
Striking a balance between
distinctive design and efficiency, the 2002 Chrysler
Concorde enters the 2002 model year with a new, more
elegant exterior appearance and an improved powertrain
lineup, making it an even more appealing choice in the
full-size sedan segment. Each Chrysler Concorde modelLX,
LXi and the new Limitedcombines agile handling,
solid performance, unique appearance and premium features
to further distance it from the pack of full-size sedans.
The 2002 Chrysler Concorde
adopts the elegant exterior design of the Chrysler LHS
with its Chrysler trademark grille design and chrome
edging, quad projector headlamps and fog lamps, bodyside
molding and rear fascia with the Chrysler winged badge.
The LHS nameplate is discontinued for the 2002 model
year, being renamed the Concorde Limited.
"Concorde plays
an important role for the Chrysler brand in the large
car segment by offering consumers agile handling, performance
and a spacious interior all wrapped in an elegant design,"
said Tom Marinelli, Vice PresidentChrysler/Jeep®
Global Brand Center, DaimlerChrysler Corporation. "The
new exterior on the 2002 Concorde will continue to give
the brand a full-size sedan in the traditional large
car segment, attracting younger buyers than its competitors
while still appealing to current buyers."
Performance continues
to be a priority for Concorde with revised powertrain
options for 2002. Concorde LX is powered by an all-aluminum
2.7-liter 24-valve V-6 engine that delivers 200 horsepower
at 5800 rpm with 190 lb.-ft. of torque at 4850 rpm.
Concorde LXi is given 12 more horsepower with a newly
calibrated all-aluminum 3.5-liter V-6 engine that is
rated at 234 horsepower at 6000 rpm with 241 lb.-ft.
of torque at 4400 rpm. This version of the 3.5-liter
engine replaces the 3.2-liter V-6. Concorde Limited
maintains the high-output 3.5-liter V-6 engine that
produces 250 horsepower at 6400 rpm with 250 lb.-ft.
of torque at 3900 rpm.
The 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter
V-6 engines feature direct coil-on-plug ignition systems
and platinum-tipped spark plus to provide 100,000-mile
intervals between tune-ups. Maintenance is reduced further
with "filled for life" transaxle fluid.
Three new exterior color
choices include Light Almond Pearl Metallic, Onyx Green
and Inferno Red. Interior color choices remain Sandstone,
Dark Slate Gray and Taupe on the LX and LXi models.
The Limited interior color choices are Sandstone, Dark
Slate Gray and Light Taupe. Genuine California Walnut
wood instrument panel and steering wheel trim round
out the optional Luxury interior package on the Limited.
Concorde features a new
Spyder wheel cover for the standard 16-inch wheels and
tires on the LX and a new Sunspark 16-inch aluminum
wheel on LXi models. Concorde Limited features new chrome
clad 17-inch tires and wheels. Electronic Brake Distribution
is added to the anti-lock braking system for 2002.
Concorde offers a full
complement of safety and security features, including
next-generation driver and front passenger air bags(a),
four-wheel anti-lock brakes with low-speed traction
control, three-point shoulder/lap belt for center rear
passengers, internal emergency trunk release, lower
and upper anchors and tethers for child restraint (LATCH),
and a vehicle theft-deterrent system with Sentry Key
engine immobilizer. Optional side air bags are offered
for front occupants.
Concorde maintains its
agile handling with four-wheel independent touring tuned
suspension, power rack and pinion steering on the LX
with speed-sensitive power rack and pinion available
as an option. The Limited features a more performance-tuned
suspension for even better handling.
(a) Certified to federal
regulations that allow less forceful front air bags.
Always use seat belts. Children 12 and under should
always be in a back seat correctly using an infant or
child restraint system, or a seat belt that is right
for their age and size.
