Overview
The
2002 Ford Taurus continues its reputation as an outstanding
family vehicle with a focus on safety, quality, convenience
and comfort. Taurus is available in two body styles
- four-door sedan and wagon. Taurus features a contemporary
aerodynamic design that has proven to be popular with
buyers in this segment.
Packaging
The
2002 Ford Taurus offers a spacious interior with a high
level of convenience items. The sedan offers five- or
six-passenger seating, with available 60/40 split fold-down
rear seatbacks for flexibility in carrying passengers
and cargo. A rear-facing third seat is available on
the Taurus wagon.
Powertrain
All
Taurus models have an 18-gallon fuel tank and a selection
of fuel-efficient V-6 engines for enhanced driving range.
The
3.0-liter OHV Vulcan V-6 Ford Taurus produces 155 horsepower
and 185 foot-pounds of torque, and the 3.0-liter DOHC
24-valve Duratec V-6 produces 200 horsepower and 200
foot-pounds of torque. A flexible fuel version of the
Vulcan engine can run on E-85 ethanol, regular unleaded
gasoline or any combination of the two.
Safety
and Security
The
Ford Taurus' outstanding reputation for safety is based
on a long list of safety features, as well as performance
in government front crash testing. Taurus has received
the federal government's highest crash-test rating -
five stars for the driver and front-seat passenger.
The
Personal Safety System is able to adjust the deployment
of the dual-stage front air bags to help protect the
occupants. The system determines if both or none of
the air bags should deploy, and at what level, depending
on the severity of the accident and safety belt usage.
The
system uses an electronic crash severity sensor, restraints
control module, driver's seat position sensor and front
outboard safety belt usage sensors to help protect the
driver and right front passenger in frontal collisions.
It
also offers an optional side air bag supplemental restraint
system for extra protection. The new LATCH child-safety
seat system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children)
helps improve the connection of a LATCH-compatible child
safety seat.
