Jeep Wrangler
The 2002 Jeep Wrangler continues to be the true, original
Jeep that delivers unmatched open-air fun and freedom with
the ability to go anywhere, do anything.
"The Wrangler
offers a lot of fun to a very diverse group of customers,"
said Tom Marinelli, Vice PresidentChrysler/Jeep Division
Global Brand Center, DaimlerChrysler Corporation. "Not
only does the vehicle appeal to younger buyers for whom the
Wrangler is their only vehicle, but we also see older buyers
making a long-time wish come truethey've always wanted
one. For them, Wrangler is a second or even third vehicle
in their garage."
all-new "X"
model
The all-new "X" model, with unique badging, will
expand the scope of Wrangler, attracting a younger buyer in
search of affordability as well as power in the 4.0-liter
engine. The X model features the powerful 4.0-liter engine
with 190 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft. of torque and cloth seats
standard, and will be available at a compelling price. A new
option package, including the new Ecco cast-aluminum wheel,
P225/75R15 OWL tires and CD player with the premium sound
system rounds out this new product offering.
Improved Sound
System
For the 2002 model year, Wrangler offers a premium sound system
by adding two instrument panel tweeters to the optional subwoofer.
New for 2001, the subwoofer is located in the redesigned center
console with rear cup holders. This new sound system, standard
on the Sahara model, provides added enjoyment of the standard
radio/cassette combination or optional stereo/CD combination.
The Wrangler also has two speakers located in the dashboard
and two in the overhead Sport Bar.
more standard equipment
The 30" Tire and Wheel Group, always a popular Sahara
option, becomes standard for 2002, along with hard doors with
full roll-up windows, speed control and sentry key. These
items will truly complement our premium model.
The Sport will
also have a new look with hard doors with full roll-up windows,
fog lamps and tow hooks now standard.
New to the Wheel
and Tire lineup is the Ecco Wheel and Tire Group. It is comprised
of the Ecco cast-aluminum wheel and the P225/75R15 OWL tire,
as stated above. In addition to being available on the new
"X" models, it is also available on SE and Sport.
Quieter HVAC System
As part of the continuous improvement process, Wrangler's
heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) controls
have been modified for increased air flow. While being five
pounds lighter, this system is also quieter than previous
generations.
The fun-to-drive
soft-top Jeep Wrangler lineup for 2002 includes SE, X, Sport
and Sahara models. Reengineered for 2001, a new soft-top for
enhanced quietness and durability is sure to please Jeep Wrangler
owners. Hard tops are optional on all Wrangler models. Dual
tops (hard top and soft top in matching colors), offering
the most flexibility, are available on Sport and Sahara.
Keeping with the
success and popularity of green, Shale Green will replace
Forest Green on Wrangler's exterior color palette. Solar Yellow,
first introduced in 2000, is currently Wrangler's most popular
exterior color.
Jeep Wrangler SE
is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine
that develops 120 horsepower (89 kW) at 5200 rpm and 140 lb.-ft.
(190 Nm ) of torque at 3500 rpm. X, Sport and Sahara
models are equipped with the 4.0-liter I-6 engine that produces
190 horsepower (142 kW) at 4600 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. (319 Nm)
of torque at 3200 rpm.
Safety features
standard on Wrangler include next-generation air bags(a),
an on/off switch for the front passenger air bag, self-adjusting
low tension three-point seat belts and height-adjustable shoulder
belts. Child seat tether anchorages were made standard for
2001. These anchor points in the rear floor pan add an important
element of safety for child seats.
A new chapter was
added to the Jeep legend with the introduction of the all-new
Wrangler for the 1997 model year. With the most significant
changes in its half-century-plus history, Wrangler retained
its original character and rich heritage while offering superior
off-road capability and improved on-road ride and handling.
Sold in 100 countries
around the world, Jeep Wrangler is available in left- and
right-hand drive versions. It is built at DaimlerChrysler's
Toledo (Ohio) assembly plant.
(a) Certified to
federal regulations that allow less forceful front air bags.
Always use seat belts. Children 12 and under should always
be in a back seat correctly using an infant or child restraint
system, or a seat belt that is right for their age and size.
