2002 Mazda Protege
The 2002 Mazda Protégé Sedan has been
a popular and aggressive competitor to the Toyota Corolla,
Nissan Sentra Sedan, and Honda Civic Sedan over many
years. With low maintenance costs and a reputation for
longevity, the Mazda Protégé Sedan is
a great bargain. Its extensive warranty, plus emergency
roadside assistance and loaner car program are also
important added benefits.
Three practical and stylish 2002 Mazda Protégé
Sedan models are available: Mazda Protégé
DX Sedan, Mazda Protégé LX Sedan, and
Mazda Protégé ES Sedan. Each of these
models has a seating capacity of five passengers, with
four doors and plenty of trunk space.
At the front of the line, the 2002 Mazda Protégé
DX Sedan is equipped with a 2.0-litre, DOHC, sixteen-valve,
four-cylinder engine with aluminum alloy cylinder heads,
130 horsepower, and 135 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel
drive Mazda Protégé DX Sedan sports a
five-speed manual transmission, with a four-speed automatic
transmission available as an option.
Each vehicle has power-assisted ventilated front disc
brakes, and rear drum brakes. The fuel economy rating
is 25/31 mpg (city/hwy) for manual transmission, and
25/30 mpg (city/hwy) for the automatic models.
The 2002 Mazda Protégé DX Sedan is fitted
with fifteen-inch styled steel wheels with full wheel
covers, a three-spoke sport steering wheel, and an optional
rear spoiler for sporty style. The rear seat splits
and folds down 60/40 to create more room when you need
it, and an AM/FM stereo with cassette player belts out
the tunes as you cruise down the streets. Air conditioning
and a single CD player are available to you as packages.
In the safety category, the 2002 Protégé
DX Sedan offers a driver side air bag, passenger side
air bag, child safety locks in the rear, side impact
door beams, front and rear crumple zones, and three-point
seat belts in all seating positions. Front fog lights
are available as an extra precaution while driving through
low-lying areas with low visibility.
Taking up where the base model left off, the 2002 Mazda
Protégé LX Sedan adds an AM/FM stereo
with CD player, power windows, illuminated drivers
switch, drivers seat height adjustment, power
door locks, and dual power outside mirrors. Drivers
will appreciate the central locking feature, and steering
wheel-mounted cruise control for relaxed highway driving.
A keyless entry system, perimeter alarm, side impact
air bags, and ABS are optional, along with a moonroof.
Crowning the 2002 line up, the Mazda Protégé
ES Sedan proudly spoils you with key additions to the
package such as sixteen-inch alloy wheels, black chrome
grille treatment, argent headlight accent treatment,
ES cloth seats, silver power window switch and center
panel, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. As
well, this model offers an optional Sport Automatic
transmission with overdrive.
Both the 2002 Mazda Protégé LX Sedan
and Mazda Protégé ES Sedan offer a Premium
Package that consists of ABS with electronic brakeforce
distribution, side impact air bags in the front seating
area, a power moonroof, and carpeted floor mats.
