2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe

Brace yourself for some lengthy, envious stares as you drive the new 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe down city streets and open highways. Its clever design and sleek style are enough to turn heads, and what’s inside is even more impressive than its sporty appearance.

The 2002 Eclipse Coupe is loaded with luxuries, and the safety features are incredibly impressive in the upper models. Three models are offered for 2002, each with two doors and seating for four: Mitsubishi Eclipse RS Coupe, Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Coupe, and Mitsubishi GT Coupe.

Proceeding with safety first, the Eclipse RS Coupe carries the basics of driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, and front head restraints. With side-guard door beams, interior padding, and Refined Impact Safety Evolution chassis, all the energy of an impact is redirected away from the driver and front passenger.

As far as performance goes, the Mitsubishi Eclipse RS Coupe has a 1.8-litre 16-valve four-cylinder SOHC engine with 147 horsepower and 158 lbs-ft of torque. Acceleration is great, and handling is quite simply divine. Standard transmission is five-speed manual and checks in at 23/31 (city/hwy) for fuel consumption, although automatic transmission is available as an option. You’ll get superior reaction from the manual, but the automatic transmission is very responsive as well. Drive type is two-wheel front, and this model is equipped with all-season SBR tires. The braking system is comprised of power-assisted ventilated front disc and rear drum brakes.

In the luxuries department, the Mitsubishi Eclipse RS Coupe scores well for an entry-level model. Standards include air conditioning, rear defroster, power door locks, a folding rear seat, remote lift gate release, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player. Other small but important conveniences listed are cup holders, steering wheel tilt, and a variety of functional and aesthetic bonuses.

Base invoice price: $16,865
Base list price: $18,087

Next up is the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Coupe. This model raises the bar as far as luxuries go, adding cruise control, keyless entry system, and dual power mirrors to the entry-level model’s list of amenities. For extra driving pleasure, a moonroof/sunroof can be had as a package.

Base invoice price: $17,678
Base list price: $18,957

Finishing up the sexy, sporty Mitsubishi line up is the Eclipse GT Coupe that headlines an increase to 200 horsepower and 205 lbs-ft of torque. This is the coupe for more avid driving enthusiasts with a thirst for greater speed and power. The Eclipse GT Coupe makes ABS brakes, side impact air bags, and traction control available as packages.

Altogether, combined with the numerous standards and available packages, you can breathe easier as you cruise down the roads in this performance model. Mitsubishi has also added packages that include a theft deterrent system and fine leather seating for an extra touch of class.

Base invoice price: $19,722
Base list price: $21,147
