2002 Mitsubishi Galant reviews and buying guide.

2002 Mitsubishi Galant

2002 Mitsubishi Galant

In addition to being an excellent overall vehicle, the new 2002 Mitsubishi Galant Sedan offers six different models to choose from. With all the different combinations, features, and options, Mitsubishi hopes you will find little reason to look elsewhere. The front end has been redesigned and is now more aggressive, and they have squared off the trunk and rear fenders for smoother aerodynamics.

Each four-door model offers something different to suit your individual, family, work, and lifestyle requirements, and has a seating capacity of five comfortable passengers. Choose from the 2002 Mitsubishi Galant DE Sedan, Galant ES Sedan, Galant ES-V6 Sedan, Galant LS Sedan, and Galant GTZ Sedan.

The Mitsubishi Galant DE Sedan is the entry-level model for the line up. Its 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with SOHC produces 140 horsepower and 155 lbs-ft of torque. Keeping in line with a more sophisticated approach, the standard transmission is four-speed automatic. Drive type is two-wheel front, and the vehicle rolls along on all-season SBR tires. The fuel economy rating for this vehicle is 21/28 (city/hwy).

The basics are addressed when it comes to safety in the Galant DE Sedan, with such standards as a driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, rear head restraints, and of course child safety locks in the rear. Front and rear crumple zones discharge the energy of an impact away from the passenger areas.

As for luxuries and conveniences, the Mitsubishi Galant DE Sedan offers air conditioning, power door locks, a theft deterrent system, power windows, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player. An interesting combination of features combined with good entry-level specifications for a pretty great price.

Base invoice price: $16,601
Base list price: $17,707

The Mitsubishi Galant ES Sedan takes the base package and adds to it front fog lights and the option of ABS brakes, and luxuries such as cruise control, keyless entry system, dual power mirrors, and a handy folding rear seat for extra luggage. A power sunroof is available as an option for ambience. The AM/FM stereo with CD player becomes a dealer-installed option in this particular model.

Base invoice price: $17,179
Base list price: $18,517

Moving along to the Mitsubishi Galant ES-V6 Sedan, we see a mirror image of the previous model with upgrades is such areas as tires (switched to all-season touring SBR) and a boost to a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with 195 horsepower and 205 lbs-ft of torque. Added safety measures include ABS brakes and heated side view mirrors, and traction control has been made available as a package. The fuel economy rating for the V6 is 20/27 (city/hwy).

Base invoice price: $18,938
Base list price: $20,417

Our fourth model, the Mitsubishi Galant LS Sedan, rolls along on all-season SBR tires and jumps back down to the four-cylinder engine specifications. Where the added value comes into the picture is in the extra safety features of ABS brakes and side impact air bags, and the standard one-touch power sunroof to bring a little light and fresh air into the cabin. The AM/FM stereo with CD player makes its appearance once again as a standard, the wheel are alloy, and the steering wheel is wrapped with leather.

Base invoice price: $19,588
Base list price: $21,117

Next in line is the Mitsubishi Galant LS-V6 Sedan, turning it up a notch to the six-cylinder specifications and adding the all-season touring SBR tires back to the package. The Galant LS-V6 also features ABS brakes and side impact air bags, and has the traction control package.

Along with all the other standard features, this model echoes the sentiments of the previous vehicle with its sunroof, AM/Fm stereo with CD player, and adds the pleasant choice of leather seating as a package to boot. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and 16-inch alloy wheels add sporty style, and rear heating ducts keep the toes of the rear passengers warm when the weather takes a turn. The driver’s seat is 8-way power adjustable.

Base invoice price: $21,168
Base list price: $22,817

Topping off the Mitsubishi line up is the Galant GTZ Sedan, packed with ABS brakes, all-season touring SBR tires, side impact air bags, and a larger six-cylinder engine with 195 horsepower, firmer shock absorbers, and a bigger rear stabilizer bar. All the luxuries and conveniences are present - this model, like some of the previous ones - includes the sunroof and AM/FM stereo with CD player, and adds heated side view mirrors, color-keyed grille, and leather upholstery.

Base invoice price: $22,410
Base list price: $24,157
