2002 Pontiac Grand Prix
You wouldnt know
it by looking at the youthful lines of todays
cars, but the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix will celebrate
its 40th anniversary in 2002. The car that proved "Wider
is Better" marks the landmark year with a special
40th Anniversary package, and a host of standard equipment
upgrades at each trim level. The Wide Track Grand Prix
offers handling and performance levels not found in
sport sedans in its price range.
Introducing the new 40th
Anniversary package
The
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and GTP Coupe and Sedan models
feature the 40th Anniversary Option package. Some of
the special appointments that set the 40th Anniversary
Grand Prix apart on the road include: A unique rear
spoiler, exclusive hood heat extractors, dual-dual exhaust
system, roof fences that mirror the production cars
NASCAR cousin, special wheels and unique Dark Cherry
paint. Inside, the milestone year is commemorated with
unique interior seat emblems, as well as exquisite two-tone
leather seats, door trim and steering wheel all done
in Ruby Red and Graphite, as well as Ruby Red leather
shift knob, and Ruby Red soft touch paint cluster and
console trim plates.
More standard equipment
The 2002 Pontiac Grand
Prix becomes an even better buy than its been
before. Previously Optional equipment is now standard,
lending more value along with the vroom. On SE Sedans,
the remote trunk release is now standard equipment,
along with cruise control with resume speed and a rear
deck lid spoiler.
On Pontiac GT models
a plush six-way power drivers seat is now standard,
along with an anti-theft security system and power door
locks, as well as redundant radio controls on the steering
wheel to operate the now-standard AM/FM stereo with
CD player, Theftlock and six-speaker sound. The AM/FM
stereo with CD player and graphic equalizer is standard
for GTP buyers.
Same roaring supercharged
power
A trio of stellar V6
engines continues to power the Grand Prix lineup. The
Pontiac Grand Prix SEs athletic appearance is
backed up by a high-powered 3.1-liter V6 engine, producing
175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque, paired
with a four-speed automatic transmission. A sport-tuned
suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars enhances
the driving experience on all Grand Prix models, while
standard four-wheel anti-lock brakes and Traction Control
help keep the driver in command under less-than-perfect
driving conditions.
A 3.8-liter V6 producing
200 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque is standard in
Grand Prix GT models. Top-of-the-line GTP models are
powered by a supercharged 3.8-liter V6 that pumps out
a whopping 240 horsepower and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of
torque.
Interior designed for
comfortable yet spirited cruising
Inside the Pontiac Grand
Prix, everything is geared toward one purpose: keeping
the driver in command. Large analog instrumentation
with red backlighting is easy to read, controls are
canted toward the driver, and a floor console is within
convenient reach.
A standard Driver Information
Center (DIC) in the instrument cluster keeps the driver
updated on various operating conditions such as traction
system activation, the need for an oil change, or a
door ajar. An available trip computer adds driving range,
oil life used, average fuel economy, and fuel used since
last reset information. The supercharged GTPs
DIC adds an engine boost pressure display.
Grand Prixs front
bucket seats are contoured to provide solid support
for mile after mile of driving comfort. Seat tracks
are 9.5 inches (240 mm) long, providing extra legroom
for tall drivers and front-seat passengers. Spreading
the front seat tracks as wide as possible assures adequate
foot space for rear-seat passengers.
Every Grand Prix has
manual lap/shoulder safety belts for all outboard positions,
and manual lap safety belts for center seating positions.
Driver and passenger front-impact air bags work in conjunction
with the safety belts to protect front seat passengers.
Crash-avoidance features on Grand Prix include four-wheel
anti-lock brakes, an Enhanced Traction System, daytime
running lamps with automatic exterior lamp control,
tires with built-in tread wear indicators, and more.
With award-winning driving
characteristics combined with a broad model lineup,
it is a machine thats sure to remain a standout.
Its appeal and its range of excitement-inducing attributes
are as wide as its stance.
