2002 Toyota Camry Solara

2002 Toyota Camry Solara Convertible

The new 2002 Toyota Camry offer us four classy sedans and three sporty coupes, but three sexy convertibles are available as well. Here, we report on the features of the 2002 Camry Solara SE Convertible, Camry Solara SE V6 Convertible, and the 2002 Camry Solara SLE Convertible.

With a seating capacity of four passengers, the two-door 2002 Toyota Camry Solara SE Convertible is a more practical choice than some of the other convertibles on the market that only fit two passengers. For extra versatility, the rear seat folds down to accommodate groceries or luggage.

Standard comforts on the Solara include cruise/speed control, power door locks, dual power mirrors, and power windows. Air conditioning is also a standard feature, although with the power retractable fabric convertible top you might not need it too often!

Also included with the 2002 Toyota Camry Solara SE Convertible are a terrific 6-speaker AM/FM stereo with CD player and important little details like steering wheel scope/tilt and a remote trunk release. A rear spoiler tops it all off with a sporty look, and a keyless entry system is available as a package.

Safety features in the 2002 Toyota Camry Solara SE Convertible list a driver side air bag, passenger side air bag, and both front and rear head restraint as standards. Front fog lights are also included, ensuring safe navigation through areas with poor visibility. ABS brakes and side impact air bags are key options that are available to you.

Under the hood, the two-wheel front drive Toyota Camry Solara SE Convertible has a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with DOHC, 157 horsepower, and 163 (lbs/ft) @ 4000 rpm of torque. Fuel is delivered via a sequential port fuel injection system, and each vehicle is fitted with all-season SBR tires.

The fuel economy rating is calculated to be approximately 23/30 (city/hwy). One thing we do find interesting is that this entry-level model (as well as the subsequent higher models) comes equipped with four-speed automatic transmission instead of manual transmission. For some, this may reduce the “fun factor” of driving a sporty vehicle, but it is certainly a practical feature for the majority of average drivers who prefer automatic transmission. Bearing this in mind, if we combine the many features and advantages of Toyota's SE Convertible, it is a remarkably excellent choice for those who not only want a sport vehicle but require sensibility as well.

Base invoice price: $22,943
Base list price: $25,495

The SE V6 takes the base package and adds to it an upgrade in performance, replacing the specs with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that pumps out 192 horsepower and 207 (lbs/ft) @ 4400 rpm of torque for a truly responsive ride. ABS brakes have been added as a standard feature for maximum control while braking suddenly. Fuel economy checks in at 19/26 (city/hwy).

Base invoice price: $25,239
Base list price: $28,045

Finishing off the Toyota line up in luxury is the SLE V6 Convertible, also boasting a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine and subsequently increased capabilities. In addition to the thorough safety standards and ABS brakes, you have the important option of adding traction control to the package. Further Toyota standards such as a keyless entry system and theft deterrent system lend both convenience and peace of mind.

Base invoice price: $27,472
Base list price: $30,525
