2002 Toyota Prius:
The new 2002 Toyota Prius Sedan enters the year 2002
with some impressive specifications that deserve serious
consideration. Toyota has long enjoyed a reputation
for high-quality vehicles with tremendous longevity
and resale value. The Prius is no exception, and is
noted for its engineering, design, excellent fuel economy,
and superior handling and maneuverability. An extra
twist is added, in that the Toyota Prius is a hybrid
of both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, which
gives us the economical fuel economy rating of 52/45
(city/hwy).
Taking a look under the hood, the Toyota Prius Sedan
features a 1.5L four-cylinder engine with DOHC. The
hybrid engine does not need to be plugged in
or recharged; it automatically recharges itself when
you coast or apply the brakes (the gas engine shuts
off momentarily and the motor acts as a generator for
the battery). The gas remains off when the vehicle is
stopped unless you have the air conditioning on, and
both the battery and gas kick in when you need extra
power to pass on the highway. Steering is rack and pinion,
and the brakes are regenerative ventilated power front
disc and rear drum.
Luxuries and conveniences include power windows, power
door locks, color-keyed dual power mirrors, air conditioning,
and an AM/FM stereo with CD player and four speakers.
The seats are upholstered with cloth with headrests
in both the front and back of the vehicle. With a center
console with storage, cup holders, front seatback pockets,
and good trunk space there will be plenty of places
to stash you stuff. The Prius has a seating capacity
of five passengers with convenient four-door entry.
Safety features include the standards of driver side
air bag, passenger side air bag, and optional front
side impact air bags. ABS brakes also come automatically
with the Toyota Prius Sedan, increasing your control
in emergency braking situations or when you are coming
to a stop on slippery road surfaces.
Finishing off with an attractive exterior, the Prius
features aerodynamic lines, a sporty-looking rear spoiler,
and each of the door handles, front and rear bumpers,
and rearview mirrors are all color-keyed. Altogether
a great package with solid performance, essential luxuries,
and thorough safety features combined with incredible
savings due to excellent fuel economy.
