2003 Acura CL reviews and buying guide.

2003 Acura CL resources:

2003 Acura CL and 2003 Acura CL Type-S

With 225 horsepower for the 2003 Acura CL and 260 horsepower for the gutsy 2003 Acura CL Type-S, these early coupe offerings to the near-luxury car class are great choices for those out there looking for power when they press the accelerator. Combine this with styling updates, a healthy collection of standard features and some interesting options, including available OnStar service, and this cousin to the very successful Acura TL is a serious and credible competitor in the class.

Under the Hood

The 2003 Acura CL is a 3.2L V-6 with a five-speed automatic transmission system that includes a manual-shift feature. The Type-S adds an antiskid system to the automatic or a new 6-speed manual transmission with a limited slip differential.

The Type-S has two other upgrades on the base model CL. To accommodate the greater power potential of 232 ft-lbs of torque from the 260 horsepower engine, it has firmer suspension and 17-inch wheels instead of the standard 16-inch wheels.

However, despite these differences, both models can get to 60 mph in under eight seconds, have high ratings for handling and are consistent with Acura's reputation for build quality, slow depreciation and safety; 4-wheel antilock disc brakes and front side airbags are also standard features. Front-wheel drive is standard on both models.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

This year's model has a standard sunroof. Updated styling includes design changes to the wheels, taillights and headlamps; a shift from bright door handles and grill surround to body-color; and, to top it off, attention was paid to revise the interior trim.

The sole remaining factory option on these two coupes is the OnStar satellite navigation system that comes complete with emergency assistance and concierge services.

The result is a comfortable and stylish ride with a businesslike motor under the hood and all for a very competitive price.
