2003 Acura MDX
The Acura MDX is a luxury sport-utility vehicle that
features a complete makeover for 2003. Engineers and
designers took a fine-tooth comb over last year's model,
carefully scrutinizing every aspect of the popular SUV.
The result is a new model with a wealth of modern features
addressing performance, safety, style and comfort.
Of course, one should not forget the generous transporting
and towing ability of the MDX, as beneath its refined
demeanor lies all the ruggedness one would expect from
an SUV. The 2003 MDX has more horsepower, improved suspension
and steering systems and standard all-wheel drive. It
seats seven and is offered in base and Touring trim
levels.
Under the Hood
The engine under the sleek hood of the 2003 Acura MDX
boasts 20 more horsepower. The result is a set of specs
that reads as follows: 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower
at 5300 rpm and 255 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. The
MDX has a revised 5-speed automatic transmission for
better shifting. Engine refinements make the MDX the
first SUV to meet rigorous ULEV-2 emissions standards
and give it an estimated fuel economy rating of 17/23
mpg (city/hwy).
The 2003 MDX has a new Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
system that aides the all-wheel drive and innovative
drive-by-wire throttle systems to provide improved vehicle
control during acceleration, cornering and braking.
In addition to having more dynamic torsional chassis
rigidity, the MDX also features dual front and side
airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and an antiskid
system for safety.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
With split-folding seats in both the second and third
rows, the MDX has many seating and cargo layouts to
accommodate all of the whacky situations families find
themselves in. There is nothing base about the base
model, as it includes front and rear air conditioning
with front and rear automatic climate controls, a tilt
leather-wrapped steering with radio controls, cruise
control, leather upholstery, heated front bucket seats,
heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks,
remote keyless entry, a power sunroof, an AM/FM/cassette/CD
player, a trip computer and more. The Touring model
adds a Bose AM/FM/cassette with in-dash 6-disc CD changer,
rain-sensing wipers and others.
A DVD system and a navigation system are both available
with the 2003 MDX. The latter features a rearview camera
that transmits pictures from behind the vehicle onto
the navigation system screen when the MDX is in reverse
gear. Fully decked out, the Acura MDX is closer to a
spaceship than anything else on the road.
