2003 BMW 325
The BMW that most of us will drive is some version
of the 325. In 2003 this line includes the BMW 325i
4-door sedan, the 325xi AWD 4-door sedan, the 325i wagon,
the 325xi AWD wagon, the 325ci coupe and the 325ci convertible.
This is both BMW's most popular series in North America
and its most accessible, with a combination of BMW performance,
a respectable selection of standard luxury fittings
and an awesome set of optional extras that allow the
consumer to pick and choose the items they would like
to pay for with the greatest flexibility.
Despite the focus on value, the 325 line still has
cutting edge technological innovation and a range of
capabilities that goes from a family and utility oriented
all-wheel drive wagon to a sporty rear-wheel drive convertible.
For versatility at BMW, one need look no further than
the 325 series.
Under the Hood
All the 325 models have one thing in common and that
is an inline V6 engine. This 2.5-litre powerplant is
highly efficient and it pumps out 184 hp at 5500 rpm,
175 lb-ft of torque at 3500. It can be equipped with
either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission
and it is capable of 20/29 mpg (city/hwy).
This car's sophisticated performance technology includes
traction control, an antiskid system, 4-wheel antilock
disc brakes with brake assist and hill-descent control
(on AWD xi models). However, the safety innovations
don't stop with these preventative systems. Airbag and
seatbelt technology is in place in full measure with
3-point seatbelts front and back and numerous standard
airbags including dual front, front side, head protection
front side and optional rear torso side airbags.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
BMW has one of the most comprehensive sets of optional
packages available in cars today. Premium, Sport and
Cold Weather Packages are specially available and tailored
to the requirements of each model. Safety, powertrain
and accessory options are also available.
Standard fittings vary but they have a base level that
is fairly high. It is not possible to buy a barebones
BMW as they simply don't make them that way. The base
trim level 325i sedan comes with air conditioning with
vinyl upholstery on front bucket and rear bench seats,
automatic climate control, cruise control, power steering,
door locks and windows, heated power mirrors and remote
keyless entry. Additional values are a tilt and telescoping
leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for the
AM/FM/CD player, tachometer and more.
