2003 Cadillac Escalade EXT
The 2003 Cadillac Escalade EXT is not just a full-size,
four-door luxury SUV. It is a revolutionary crossover
vehicle that can morph between an SUV and a pickup truck.
Featuring a removable rear window and midgate system
similar to the one found in the Chevrolet Avalanche,
the Escalade EXT combines all the style, comfort and
performance of the regular Escalade with the added toughness
of a durable pickup truck. With the midgate system,
the Escalade EXT can go from a five-passenger SUV with
a 5.3 ft. bed to a tough two-passenger pickup with a
spacious 8.1 ft. bed.
On top of the versatility and sturdy construction you
would expect in a crossover SUV/pickup truck, the 2003
Escalade EXT offers a smarter electrical system. In
addition, 2003 also sees new safety features, a rear-
seat entertainment system, interior instrument panel
upgrades and modified seats.
Under the Hood
The Escalade EXT has plenty of power to accommodate
its dual nature and the varying demands that both sides
bring. The Vortec 6.0-liter/ 366-cu. inch V8 engine
features 345 horsepower at 5200rpm and 380lb-ft of torque
at 4000rpm, translating into a towing capacity of 8000
lbs. 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is
standard, as is all-wheel drive, dual front and side
airbags with passenger-sensing system, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes, traction control, load-leveling suspension,
rear-obstacle detection system and automatic shock-absorber
control. In other words, the Escalade EXT is built for
high-performance.
An advanced new multiplexed electrical architecture
makes Escalade EXT even smarter. The number of wires,
splices and connectors have been reduced, resulting
in less weight and improved packaging efficiency. A
new driver information center monitors and reports on
up to 30 system functions - more than any vehicle in
its class.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Luxury is the name for the level of comfort the 2003
Cadillac Escalade EXT provides. There are seemingly
countless standard features, including the OnStar System,
10-way power front bucket seats, power-adjustable pedals,
a memory system for driver seat, pedals, and mirrors
and a Bose AM/FM/cassette with in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
Additional luxury and performance packages are available.
Some of the highlights are a rear seat DVD Entertainment
System, heavy-duty trailering equipment and a power
sunroof.
Just living up to the title of full-size luxury SUV/pickup
truck is a difficult task, but one that the 2003 Escalade
EXT handles quite well.
