2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 (Regular Cab)
The 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 comes in a wide variety
of sizes and styles in each of its weight classes. The
half-ton 1500 series proves this point emphatically
with its selection of bed sizes, engines and models.
Available in base or perked-up LS, the 1500 also offers
three bed sizes: 6.5-ft. flare-fender Sportside Box,
6.5-ft. Fleetside Short Box, and 8.1-ft. Fleetside Long
Box. To further add to the selection, 2WD and 4WD are
available, as well as a two-pronged engine upgrade and
thorough options packages. There is certainly no shortage
of choices to make when dealing with the Silverado 1500.
New for 2003 are a number of front-end styling changes
and entertainment options to choose from. In terms of
design, the Silverado is now even more unique. The hood
asserts strength, while the grille is smoothly integrated
into the front end. The bumper offers larger fog lamps
and the front and rear fenders have been redone. New
body-side moldings add protection, and restyled taillamps
complete the design. Two new exterior colors - Dark
Gray Metallic and Arrival Blue - are also available.
What remains constant is the long-lasting dependability
and performance of previous models.
Under the Hood
The standard engine on all 1500 regular cabs is a 4.3-liter
V6 with 200 horsepower. 5-speed manual transmission
comes standard, while 4-speed automatic transmission
is optional.
For people who want to boost there engines, there are
upgrades available. On all bed sizes, the standard engine
can be replaced with one of two engines: a 4.8-liter
V8 with 270 horsepower at 5200rpm and 285lb-ft of torque
at 4000rpm or a 5.3-liter V8 with 300 horsepower at
4400rpm and 360lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm (4-speed automatic
only).
In terms of safety, the Silverado provides antilock
4-wheel disc brakes, dual front airbags and its renown
sturdy construction, as big a preventative step as any.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The base model is equipped with air-conditioning with
dual-zone manual climate control, trip computer, AM/FM
radio and a host of other features. Two-to-three passenger
seating is available with the regular cab. The LS model
upgrades the comfort factor with such things as AM/FM
CD player, carpeting, and power everything.
For options, there are a number of performance packages
for the Silverado 1500, from heavy hauling and towing
upgrades to off-road suspension improvements. For entertainment,
customers can choose a DVD system, XM Satellite Radio,
or a Bose audio system. But by no means does the list
end there.
Power, performance, reliability, safety, and variety
- all these terms describe the 2003 Silverado 1500 regular
cab.
