2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser reviews and buying guide.

2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Whether you like it or not, there's no denying the innovative styling of the Chrysler PT Cruiser. And while the unique front end of the PT Cruiser gives it a highly polished look, the price tag certainly causes people to do a double take. An exceptional value for the amount of appointments that come standard, the PT Cruiser has become an instant favorite in the compact car class.

New for 2003 is a turbocharged PT Cruiser that ups the horsepower rating. This GT model joins the Base, Touring Edition and Limited Edition. All PT Cruisers have a four-door wagon body style and seat up to five passengers.

Under the Hood

The Base, Touring Edition and Limited Edition are equipped with a 2.4-liter engine with 150 horsepower. The new GT adds on 65 horsepower to the same engine, resulting in a total of 215. 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic are both available.

A redesigned engine cylinder block assembly, cylinder head assembly and crankshaft add to the Chrysler PT Turbo engine's reliability. In addition to the powertrain enhancements, a specially tuned suspension enhances the Chrysler PT Turbo's on-road performance. For safety, all models come with dual front airbags. The Limited Edition adds front side airbags, while the GT adds antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The new GT keeps the differentiation going with its exterior style package. Its body color monotone front fascia features a larger, lower grille to feed ample air flow to the turbo intercooler, while the new body color monotone rear fascia sports a larger exhaust opening. All 2003 PT Cruisers receive the following standard appointments, and then some: air conditioning, power steering, tilt steering wheel, front bucket seats, fold-flat passenger seat, under-seat storage bin, center console, split folding rear seat, power windows, AM/FM/CD player and digital clock. Naturally, uplevel models feature more and more standards as you go up the line, while options packages add even more to the selection

The distinguished PT Cruiser delights owners with its unique styling, and it certainly doesn't disappoint with its performance and comfort either.
