2003 Dodge Caravan reviews and buying guide.

2003 Dodge Caravan resources:

2003 Dodge Caravan

You know you're doing something right when you're the best-selling minivan in America. So when the Dodge Caravan rolls in with a nonchalant strut and an easy confidence, it's more than understandable. Perched atop the competitive minivan market, its attitude is certainly justified.

The reason for the Caravan's popularity lies in its blend of power, comfort, safety and durability. What's equally impressive is that all of this is packaged at a fair price. In addition to the front-wheel drive Caravan, there is an extended-length Grand Caravan, which offers available all-wheel drive. Both models seat seven with ease, and offer dual sliding side doors for easy loading and unloading. The 2003 Caravan comes in two models: SE and Sport.

Under the Hood

The engine under the hood of entry-level SE models is a capable 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder with 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. The Sport model is given more jump with a 3.3-liter V6 that dishes out 180 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is mated to both engine types. The SE gets 19/24 mpg (city/hwy), while the Sport gets 18/24 mpg (city/hwy).
The Caravan has a stable suspension system to dull the impact of the biggest potholes. Safety is a top priority as well, as the Caravan provides the following features: driver and passenger airbags with multi-stage inflators, head injury protection for occupants in all seating positions and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and upper Tethers for Children) child seat anchorage system.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2003 Dodge Caravan has a comfortably laid out interior that is both spacious and refined. The SE model features front air conditioning, power steering, cloth upholstery, an AM/FM/cassette, a digital clock, variable-intermittent wipers, visor mirrors and intermittent rear wiper/washer. The uplevel Sport model adds more to the list, including cruise control, dual-zone manual climate controls, heated power mirrors, power front windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, tachometer, overhead console and a trip computer.

For the first time, the Dodge Caravan also offers a power sunroof. Additional options packages allow owners to fully deck out their Dodge Caravans.

Continuing in the best-selling Caravan tradition, the 2003 entry simply sets a new standard for the rest of the pack to follow.
