2003 Dodge Grand Caravan
Big brother to the Dodge Caravan, the larger 2003 Dodge
Grand Caravan adds a few more inches to the wheelbase,
resulting in greater interior space and even more cargo-carrying
flexibility. While the Grand Caravan shares the same
four-door configuration as the Caravan, it alone offers
power operation for both of its sliding doors, a feature
that is quite practical for busy families.
There are many Grand Caravan models to choose from,
including all-wheel drive versions that up the handling
capabilities of this popular minivan. All models seat
seven, and spread the amenities about generously. Starting
from the entry-level position and moving up to the peak,
the 2003 Grand Caravan lineup is as follows: SE, Sport,
eL, eX and ES.
Under the Hood
Sport and top-line ES models offer all-wheel drive.
The SE model is given a capable 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder
engine with 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft
of torque at 4000 rpm. Front-wheel drive Sport and eL
models have a 3.3-liter V6 that dishes out 180 horsepower
at 5000 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. All-wheel
drive Sport, eX and ES models have even more power with
a 3.8-liter V6 with 215 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 245
lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission
is mated to all engine types.
Safety is always a major concern for minivan owners,
and Grand Caravan offers a thorough package in this
regard. All models are equipped with driver and passenger
airbags with multi-stage inflators, head injury protection
for occupants in all seating positions and the LATCH
(Lower Anchors and upper Tethers for Children) child
seat anchorage system.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan is filled with many minivan-first
features, making it truly an innovative leader in its
class. The following equipment on the Grand Caravan
won't be found on any other minivan: a power up and
down liftgate; a removable, powered center console;
a power sliding door obstacle detection system; a three
zone automatic temperature control system; a pop-up
rear cargo organizer and 50/50 rear roller seats.
For the first time, the Dodge Grand Caravan also offers
a power sunroof and a factory-installed DVD entertainment
system. Sure to satisfy, the latter features a flip-down
7-inch diagonal liquid crystal display (LCD) screen
and an in-dash DVD unit that plays both DVDs and CDs,
a wireless remote control and two sets of minivan-first
wireless headphones.
Like the regular-length Caravan, the 2003 Grand Caravan
is a very appealing option for families in the minivan
market.
