2003 Dodge Ram 2500/3500
The 2003 Dodge Ram heavy-duty lineup can handle the
dirty work. Period. Strength, durability and versatility
combine to form the triumvirate that heads the entire
team, and each and every model adheres to their principles.
Whether it's ¾-ton 2500 models or full 1-ton
3500 models, owners can rest assured they are stepping
into a long and proud tradition of auto making.
Heavy-duty Dodge Rams quite simply guide the way in
their segment, offering class-leading towing and payload
capacity and the most interior room. Completely restyled,
these pickups are well ahead of the competition, already
defining the modern era while others can only struggle
to keep up. Both the 2500 and the 3500 come in regular-cab
or Quad Cab extended-cab models with two rear-hinged
back doors and a three-person rear bench seat. In addition,
there are long and short cargo bed configurations and
SL, SLT and Laramie models to choose from. In other
words, selection is not a problem.
Under the Hood
3500 models offer dual rear wheels for added traction
control and towing ability. Not surprisingly, 2WD and
4WD configurations are available across the board. The
standard engine, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 capable of a whopping
345 horsepower, can be upgraded to any of three optional
engines. In addition, the standard 5-speed manual transmission
can be altered to 4-speed automatic, 5-speed automatic
or 6-speed manual. This impressive diversity only reinforces
Dodge's commitment to satisfy the varied needs of its
customers.
The optional engine lineup piles on the power. One
of the available engines is an 8.0-liter V10 that can
handle the heaviest loads. The other two are both 5.9-liter
diesel engines. One of them, a High Output Cummins Turbo
Diesel engine that produces 305 horsepower, is the most
powerful turbo diesel engine available in the 2500/3500
segment.
Ram 2500 and 3500 have the first heavy-duty pickup
application of side curtain airbags. Other features
include antilock brakes, power adjustable pedals (on
both automatic and manual transmission equipped trucks)
and the first pretensioning, constant-force seat belt
retractors in heavy-duty pickups.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Though the 2003 Dodge Ram heavy-duty lineup is built
primarily for tough performance demands, it doesn't
neglect cabin comfort. Regular cabs seat three, while
Quad Cabs can handle six. The Laramie package certainly
blends exceptional refinement with all the powertrain
appeal that comes with every Ram model, as it features
dual-zone temperature control, remote keyless entry,
an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and an
overhead console with storage bin, map lights, universal
garage door opener, compass, outside temperature display
and trip computer.
