2003 Dodge Stratus Coupe
A new muscular exterior design is the biggest change
to the 2003 Dodge Stratus Coupe, while under the hood
the Stratus coupe still packs quite a punch for a smaller
vehicle. Almost all of the Stratus coupe's exterior
has been updated for 2003, including all-new front and
rear fascias, grille, headlamps, taillamps, fog lamps
and side sill moldings, as well as new hood and trunk
lid designs. People will hardly recognize it as it rolls
down the road.
The two-door Stratus coupe seats five passengers. Also
available is a Stratus sedan, which provides a four-door
body frame. Both vehicles provide excellent acceleration
out of the gate and the ability to sustain it even at
high speeds. The Stratus coupe is offered in SE and
R/T models.
Under the Hood
The entry-level SE model comes with a very capable
engine, but the R/T really pushes up the performance
level. Inside SE models is a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine
that delivers 147 horsepower. The R/T model provides
quite a bit more juice with a 3.0-liter V6 with 200
horsepower. Both 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed
automatic are available. SE models with 4-speed automatic
see their horsepower drop down a few notches to 142.
The Stratus coupe is a good value in part because of
its fuel economy. Manual transmission SE models get
22/29 mpg (city/hwy), while automatics get 21/28 mpg
(city/hwy). Similarly, manual transmission R/Ts offer
a rating of 20/29 mpg (city/hwy) and 20/28 mpg (city/hwy)
for automatics. For safety, the coupe provides next-generation
driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags, side
impact bars in the doors and a rear seat center shoulder
seat belt, as well as available side curtain air bags.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Stratus coupe has 102.6 cubic feet of interior
space, plus 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks to accommodate
longer items. SE models come with a healthy amount of
standard features, including air conditioning, power
steering, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, cloth
upholstery, height-adjustable driver seat, center console,
power mirrors, windows and door locks, AM/FM radio with
in-dash 4-disc CD changer, digital clock, tachometer,
floormats and more.
The R/T model is not just fast, it's also comfortable.
It has all the features of the SE, on top of which it
adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls,
remote keyless entry, an Infinity sound system and illuminated
visor mirrors. In addition, the options list is varied
and practical.
Newly designed and consistently powerful, the 2003
Dodge Stratus Coupe is among the leaders in the two-door
vehicle segment for a reason.
