2003 Ford Escape (Limited Edition)
There are eight different 2003 Ford Escape models,
and the Limited edition stands atop that list with unmatched
content and comfort. New for 2003, the Limited edition
features a unique style with body-color cladding, fascias,
moldings, door handles and liftgate trim for a monochromatic
exterior appearance. It also comes standard with bright
machined 16-inch aluminum wheels.
The Limited edition essentially takes all the features
spread over each of the Escape models, plus a few introductions
of its own, and combines them together for the ultimate
in performance and style. The four-door, five-passenger
Escape is given an extra element of luxury with the
addition of the Limited. The result is even more versatility
to the Escape lineup, assuring that its status in the
compact SUV market will continue to rise.
Under the Hood
The Limited edition of the 2003 Ford Escape comes with
the same engine that is standard on many of the models
that are offered. It is a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 201
horsepower at 5900rpm and 196lb-ft of torque at 4700rpm.
4-speed automatic transmission does the shifting, while
two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations
are available. The full-time four-wheel-drive system
provides the driver with the choice of two settings:
4x4 Auto or 4x4 ON. The automatic setting allows the
vehicle to determine how to apportion torque between
the front and rear wheels, while the 4x4 ON setting
splits the torque evenly between the front and rear
drive wheels.
Other highlights in the construction of the top-line
Limited include an enhanced safety package and a Reverse
Sensing System for rear obstacle detection, a feature
that essentially gives the Limited eyes in the back
of its head. Security is thoroughly addressed with dual
front and side airbags, four channel antilock brakes
and front fender reinforcement.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Style and standard equipment are doled out generously
on the Limited edition. A new level of interior sophistication
is reached with premium leather seats, heated front
seats, dual front sun visors with illuminated vanity
mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated exterior
mirrors and a MACH Audio in-dash six-CD changer with
automatic volume control. And that's just the top of
the list.
While most features are offered in the standard package,
there are some available options to add to the Limited
edition. A power sunroof is one such option. Another
is a Class II Trailer Towing Package for people who
need to haul their wares, which includes a trailer hitch,
4-wire harness and oil cooler.
New for 2003, the Limited is another bright spot on
the Escape's already impressive resume.
