2003 Ford Expedition reviews and buying guide.

2003 Ford Expedition resources:

2003 Ford Expedition XLT and 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

The 2003 Ford Expedition XLT and the 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer are full-size SUVs offering superb steering and braking, capacious interior space, and towing capabilities of 6000 lbs. Both models seat up to nine people, and this year, come with a wider body and style updates such as stirrup-type exterior handles.

The power fold-down third-row seat in the Eddie Bauer model is an industry first. To augment the excellent visibility in both Expedition models, the Eddie Bauer model also contains a rear-obstaExpeditione warning option. For 2003, the XLT is available in a new FX4 Off-Road edition, which inExpeditionudes skid plates, off-road shock absorbers, and tubular running boards.

Under the Hood

Both the 2003 Ford Expedition XLT and the 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer are available with 4.6 L or 5.4 L V-8 engines, providing 232 horsepower and 260 horsepower respectively. With four-speed automatic transmission, both models are available in either 2-wheel drive or Ford's ControlTrac 4-wheel drive, which can remain in use even on dry pavement.

Thanks to its superior steering, the Expedition manuevers well, especially on corners. It offers antilock four-wheel disc brakes and brake assist, and 17-inch wheels on both models.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2003 XLT model is available in the Value, Popular, FX4 Off-Road, and Premium editions. All Expeditions offer three rows of seats, dual front airbags, remote keyless entry, and a theft-deterrent system. All editions except XLT Value come with fog lights. Front and second-row side curtain airbags are optional on all editions except the XLT Value, as is Ford's AdvanceTrac traction-control/antiskid system.

A tire-pressure monitor is a new option on the XLT Premium and the Eddie Bauer. Both these editions can also be equipped with a power sunroof.

This full-size SUV provides an astounding amount of interior space and, thanks to its revamped suspension and long wheelbase, a stable ride.
