2003 Ford F-150 Lariat and King Ranch Editions
The 2003 Ford F-150 Lariat and the Ford F-150 King Ranch
editions are similar in many ways to the lower trim
level F-150 XL and XLT. However, the upgrades are quite
significant. The 4.6-liter V8 engine is significantly
more powerful and the interior fittings were chosen
with a mind oriented toward luxury. Styling, comfort
and function are definitely enhanced while smaller details,
such as illuminated running boards, convey an overall
sense of quality and finish.
Like the rest of the F-150 line, the story doesn't
end with the trim level. Individual consumer needs are
easy to satisfy when the choices range from the Regular
Cab 2-door to the Super Cab with rear seats and two
rear-hinged doors added on for easy entry and egress.
Then, for yet more passenger space, add the SuperCrew
Cab that gives full rear seating and four independently
opening doors. But that is not all! A variety of choices
are offered for the bed and exterior styling as well:
from short bed to long bed and Styleside (flat side)
to Flareside (Flared Rear Fenders).
Under the Hood
The 4.6 liter V8 powerhouse puts out 281hp at 4750rpm
and 293 lb-ft of torque at 3500. It manages 16/20 mpg
(city/hwy) while the 4WD, which comes with a 2-speed
transfer case, uses only slightly more gas, with ratings
of 15/18 mpg. Standard dual-front airbags and 4-wheel
antilock disc brakes are standard on the entire F-150
series.
The specialty models, the Ford F-150 XVT Lightning
and the Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition come with
a whole lot more power. The 2-door Regular Cab Lightning
has a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that pumps out a blistering
380 hp and an eye-popping 450 lb-ft of torque at 3250
rpm. As you can imagine, this truck goes like stink.
The Harley Davidson Edition is not far behind with a
5.4 liter V8 with 340 hp and 350 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm. All
these engines are available with a 4-speed automatic
transmission while the 4.6-liter is also available with
a 5-speed manual.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
These are the top-of-the-line F-150 pick-ups and you
can assume that basic features are standard equipment:
A/C, AM/FM/CD, Cruise, etc. Then, the not so basic features,
standard equipment at the King Ranch level; all-leather
upholstery, heated seats, captain chairs, 6-disc CD
changer and not to forget the aforementioned illuminated
running boards.
However, a significant factor on the Ford truck line
is the huge range of options and major options packages.
Take the FX4 Off-Road Package that has skid-plates,
a 3.55 limited-slip diff, heavy-duty shocks and much
more. The huge range of options allows you to pick the
truck you need with the power you want and the functional
capability to pull, carry or negotiate the toughest
terrain.
