2003 Ford Mustang reviews and buying guide.

2003 Ford Mustang resources:

2003 Ford Mustang

The 2003 Ford Mustang is a classic car that has experienced a resurgence of popularity and vigor with a renewed life as a sporty coupe. However, as with the other Ford vehicles, not all Mustangs are created equal and there is a range of engine choices and body types to choose from. But, whether you choose the Ford Cobra SVT Convertible or the base level V6 you know you can count on great road-handling capability and a fair amount of plain power.

This year's Mustang is available with the Base, GT, Mach 1 or Cobra Performance packages and these can be had in a 2-door Coupe or Convertible, with the exception of the Mach 1, which is only available as a Coupe. The Base Coupe comes with Standard, Deluxe or Premium trim levels while the GT comes with Deluxe or Premium.

Under the Hood

The performance levels on the Mustang go from powerful to race-ready. The 3.8-liter V6 that the Base models come with put out 190 hp at 5250 rpm and 220 lb-ft of torque at 2750. The GT comes with a 4.6-liter V8 that brings power output up to 260 hp and 302 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. Both these cars come with a choice of 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmissions.

If that is not enough for you the dohc V8 installed in the Mach 1 comes with 300 hp at 6000 rpm and 300 lb-ft at 4250. Finally, jump into a 390 hp Cobra with its supercharged V8, hit the gas and hold on to your hats as its 390 lb-ft of torque propel you forward at "ludicrous speed." This rocket will approach single digits on a quarter mile track and requires some careful handling as you shift through its 6-speed manual transmission. 225/55R16

To provide a little control and safety Ford has installed dual front airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes on all models. The Base Premium adds ABS while GT class comes with GT suspension, a limited slip differential and a tire upgrade from 225/55R16 to 245 /45ZR17. Mach 1 has improved brakes, suspension and functional hood scoop while the Cobra has 275/40ZR17 tires and Cobra suspension. The result of these features on an already acclaimed design is high marks for handling for all the Mustang models.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Even at the Base Standard trim level; the interior features are very generous. A/C, power steering, mirrors, locks and mirrors, AM/FM/CD and tachometer are all included in the sticker price and that list is by no means inclusive.

Upgrade to Deluxe for cruise control and power seats and power roof control. Premium offers leather upholstery and an in-dash 6-CD changer.

Lastly, options and options packages enable the buyer to pick specific details such as a rear spoiler or leather upholstery, even when not included in the model they buy.
