2003 Ford Windstar reviews and buying guide.

2003 Ford Windstar resources:

2003 Ford Windstar

The 2003 Ford Windstar is at the forefront of the minivan sector as both a cargo version and a 7-passenger vehicle with four different trim levels. Choose from the base LX through SE, SEL and Limited models. They share the same engine but offer very different selections of standard features.

Whatever you choose, Ford's commitment to quality is reflected by the Windstar, which can be decked out, through options and trim level choices, to be a truly luxurious and comfortable ride. The Windstar is aimed at families but is ideal as a van for work-related purposes as there is ample room for cargo.

Under the Hood

The Windstar line share the same powertrain, with a 3.8-liter/ 232 cu in. V6 that puts out 200 hp at 4900 rpm and can deliver 232 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. A four speed automatic transmission, it gets 17/23 mpg (city/hwy) and is really quite powerful, especially in terms of comfort and performance on the highway. Long trips with the family become a lot more comfortable when everyone has room to stretch out and the engine isn't struggling to maintain the pace.

Dual-front airbags and antilock brakes are standard, even at the base LX model, as is a tire pressure moniter. On the Limited addition, self-sealing tires, front-side airbags and traction control are also standard, optional for the rest of the line.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Their interior features most significantly differentiate the different models in the Windstar series. For example, the Base LX has air conditioning, power steering, mirrors, windows and door locks, AM/FM radio, tachometer, tilt steering wheel, intermittent wipers, rear wiper/washer and defogger, and a theft-deterrent system. However, go up one notch and the luxuries multiply. The Standard LX adds rear air conditioning, cruise control, remote keyless entry, AM/FM/CD and adjustable second and third row seats.

The SE adds even more features to this with radio controls for passengers riding in the back along with quad bucket seats. To add to driver comfort the steering wheel is leather-wrapped and a 6-way power driver's seat is included along with heated mirrors with turn signals. SEL adds leather upholstery, a power seat for the front passenger, an automatic day/night rearview and a universal garage-door opener. Power sliding side doors also up the luxury ante while a compass mounted on the center console will help you avoid getting lost.

At the top of the line is the Limited Edition. With heated front seats, drivers seat and mirror memory features, an in-dash 6-CD changer and a wood/leather-wrapped steering wheel, the Limited completes the transformation from cargo van to luxury family or passenger vehicle.
