2003 GMC Envoy XL
The 2003 GMC Envoy XL adds more room to the regular
length Envoy, resulting in seven-passenger seating.
For 2003, the Envoy XL also offers an option on an ultra
powerful engine upgrade, resulting in the XL laying
claim to the midsize SUV segment's strongest engine
title. A reduced price on the base SLE model is also
part of the package for this year. Throw in safety,
quiet refinement and extroverted high-performance, and
it isn't much of a surprise to hear that the Envoy has
been awarded a host of awards recognizing its excellence.
The mandate of customer satisfaction does not stop
there. In order to attract more customers, Envoy XL
gives buyers a measure of flexibility when equipping
their vehicles. Options can be added individually rather
than in packages, allowing owners to tailor their specific
Envoys to their needs. Available in 2WD and 4WD configurations,
and in an uplevel SLT model, there is enough variety
of choice to spread this SUV's appeal over a large audience
range
Under the Hood
The standard engine in the GMC Envoy XL is a 4.2-liter/
256-cu. inch L6 with 275 horsepower at 6000rpm and 275lb-ft
of torque at 3600rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission
is standard, while a stable suspension system handles
the bumps of the road. All Envoy XL models feature a
new, four-position headlamp switch, allowing drivers
to turn off the daytime running lamps and automatic
headlamps when necessary. For safety, the Envoy XL comes
with dual front and side airbags. Also standard are
4-wheel antilock brakes and a drum-in-hat parking brake.
Hydraulically assisted rack-and-pinion steering helps
drivers avoid danger when it arises.
For those who want even more power, the available engine
upgrade is sure to satisfy. Owners can switch to a 5.3-liter/
327-cu. inch V8 with 290 horsepower at 5200rpm and 325lb-ft
of torque at 4000rpm, and they won't ever think of coming
back.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
With three rows of seating and a wheelbase of 129 inches,
the Envoy XL has a generous amount of space for both
passengers and cargo alike. An increased 25-gallon fuel
tank is also part of the package. Because style is an
important feature in any vehicle, two new color options
are available for 2003: Carbon Metallic and Silver Green
Metallic. The SLE model is filled with standard features,
addressing all the creature comforts, while the SLT
adds even more luxury to the ride.
The ability to order options individually is one of
the high points of the 2003 GMC Envoy XL. With such
a variety to choose from, there's a good chance there
will be no two identical Envoys on the road. Some of
the features that are available include an off-road
equipment package, Bose sound system, power sunroof
and special paint.
With more seating and an added measure of space than
the regular length Envoy, the XL is a formidable partner
in GMC's midsize SUV one-two punch.
