2003 GMC Envoy reviews and buying guide.

2003 GMC Envoy
The 2003 GMC Envoy is a midsize SUV that is as well
rounded as any you'll find on the road. For this reason,
and for the extra effort manufacturers have put into
its design, the Envoy has won numerous awards. 2002
was another banner year, with the Envoy picking up Motor
Trend's "2002 Sport/Utility of the Year,"
Sport Truck Magazine's "Truck of the Year,"
and African American On Wheels and Latinos On Wheels
2002 "Urban Wheels" award. If the opinion
of these car experts isn't enough, one need only take
a peek at what the Envoy offers to see what all the
fuss is about.
The Envoy has power, safety, comfort and durability
all covered. Plus, it is even more attractively priced
for 2003. The five-passenger Envoy is offered in two
models: SLE and SLT. Not surprisingly, 2WD and 4WD configurations
are available. Whether it's heavy workloads, off-roading
or steady street driving, the 2003 GMC Envoy can handle
it.
Under the Hood
The engine that drives the impressive GMC Envoy is
a 4.2-liter/ 256-cu. inch L6 with 275 horsepower at
6000rpm and 275lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm. 4-speed automatic
transmission is standard, as is a rugged suspension
system. All Envoy models feature a new, four-position
headlamp switch, allowing drivers to turn off the daytime
running lamps and automatic headlamps when necessary.
Starting in the fall of 2002, a larger 22-gallon fuel
tank will be offered.
For safety, the Envoy comes with dual front and side
airbags. Also standard are 4-wheel antilock brakes and
a rear drum-in-hat parking brake. Hydraulically assisted
rack-and-pinion steering helps drivers avoid danger
when it arises.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Envoy is filled with comfort and flexibility. Even
at a reduced price, the entry-level SLE still features,
among other things, air conditioning with dual-zone
manual controls, cruise control, cloth upholstery, front
bucket seats with lumbar adjustment, 8-way power driver
seats and AM/FM/CD player. The SLT adds leather upholstery,
8-way power passenger seat, driver-seat and mirror memory,
dual-zone automatic climate control, steering-wheel
radio and climate controls and more.
Customers can order additional options on an individual
basis, rather than as part of an equipment package.
This adds potential savings and greater flexibility.
Some of the features that jump out from the list are
an off-road equipment package and a Bose sound system.
The reason why the Envoy has won so many awards is readily
apparent after the first drive. The 2003 version hopes
to add a few more trophies to the case.
