2003 GMC Savana 1500
The GMC Savana comes in a whopping ten models. This
translates into one thing: there is nothing that at
least one of these full-size vans can't handle. The
Savana 1500 passenger van is the smallest of the bunch,
though it weighs in at a healthy half-ton. With eight-passenger
seating and enough remaining space to load in whatever
needs to be carried, the Savana 1500 is built for transportation.
The Savana 1500 is available in a regular 135-inch
wheelbase length version only. The G1500 model features
two-wheel, rear-wheel drive, while a brand new H1500
model comes with all-wheel drive. Also new for 2003
on the Savana are a host of upgrades, including cleaner
engines, powertrain and safety enhancements and a smarter
electrical system. As if that isn't enough, the Savana
also features a newly designed front-end and a stronger
underlying construction.
Under the Hood
The two-wheel drive G1500 comes with a Vortec 4.3-liter
V6 engine with multi-port fuel injection, capable of
200 horsepower at 4400rpm and 250lb-ft of torque at
2800rpm. In addition to an all-wheel drive system with
viscous-coupled transfer case for better traction control,
the H1500 also features its own specialized engine.
The heart pumping under its hood is a Vortec 5.3-liter
V8 with 285 horsepower at 5200rpm and 325lb-ft of torque
at 4000rpm. For G1500 owners who envy the power of the
H1500 model, manufacturers have made the V8 an available
option.
Because it will be called upon to carry precious cargo,
the Savana is equipped with highly sophisticated brakes
across all models. A four-wheel power disc, four-wheel
antilock brake system with HydroBoost hydraulic-assist
power-brake booster and GM's Dynamic Rear Proportioning
ensures quicker stops and require less pedal force.
Also addressing safety is a dual front, dual-level airbag
system.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Savana's new look is achieved by a fresh front
makeover. Bolder front-end styling, including grille,
bumper, fascia, fenders and hood, distinguishes the
2003 model from its predecessors. In addition, the underlying
structure improves occupant protection and crashworthiness,
and reduces repair costs. In terms of comfort, both
Savana 1500 models offer an improved heating, ventilation
and air conditioning (HVAC) system, integrated armrests,
window and lock control switches and mirrors, durable
12-ounce carpeting and more.
For 2003 the OnStar system is an option available across
all models. OnStar services include automatic notification
of air bag deployment, stolen vehicle location, remote
door unlock, emergency services dispatch, roadside assistance,
remote diagnostics, route support, convenience services
and OnStar Concierge, plus hands-free phone calls.
For eight-passenger transportation needs, the Savana
1500 has what it takes to get the job done.
