2003 GMC Savana 2500 reviews and buying guide.

2003 GMC Savana 2500

The Savana 2500 passenger van is the middle sibling in GMC's full-size van family. Being stuck in the middle, the 2500 has perhaps the most versatility of all the Savana models. With room for eight or twelve passengers, two wheelbase sizes and three different engines, this point needs no further evidence. Adding impressive flexibility to the power, safety, durability and comfort that come standard on all Savanas, the 2500 is a ¾-ton van certainly worthy of its nameplate.

The Savana 2500 is available in a regular 135-inch wheelbase length and an extended 155-inch wheelbase length. The G2500 model features two-wheel, rear-wheel drive, while a brand new H1500 model comes with all-wheel drive (regular wheelbase length only). In addition, for 2003 the Savana 2500 is also available with an alternative fuel engine that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) or on CNG or gasoline (bi-fuel system). Alternative fuel systems are designed to meet the most stringent federal and California emissions requirements there are, and the Savana readily adheres to these guidelines.

Under the Hood

Both G2500 models come with a Vortec 4.8-liter V8 engine with 270 horsepower. The all-wheel drive H2500, in addition to a steady traction control system, features a Vortec 5.3-liter V8 with 285 horsepower. To round out the engine selection, the alternative fuel engine on G2500 models is a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 with 300 horsepower featuring drastically reduced emissions (optional, depending on GVW).

A world class four-wheel power disc, four-wheel antilock brake system with HydroBoost hydraulic-assist power-brake booster and GM's Dynamic Rear Proportioning ensures quicker stops and require less pedal force. Dual front airbags are also standard, as are driver and front passenger belts with pre-tensioners and energy-absorbing retractors, three-point lap-and-shoulder belts in all first- and second-row seating positions and a child seat tether-type restraint anchorage system.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2003 Savana has enhanced front-end styling and a smarter electrical system featuring a new instrument cluster to monitor and report on 20 system functions. Also provided in 2003 models are the Oil Life System, lockout prevention, retained accessory power and battery rundown protection.

For 2003 the OnStar system is an option available across all models. OnStar services include automatic notification of air bag deployment, stolen vehicle location, remote door unlock, emergency services dispatch, roadside assistance, remote diagnostics, route support, convenience services and OnStar Concierge, plus hands-free phone calls.

The ¾-ton Savana 2500 is plenty of van offering plenty of space, performance and dependability.
