2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab
The 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab adds dual rear-hinged
back doors and a passenger rear bench seat to the regular
cab size, resulting in up to six-passenger seating (five
with front bucket seats). For 2003, the light-duty Sierra
introduces an extensive array of segment-defining safety,
performance and refinement features into its already
impressive lineup. Powertrain upgrades also provide
more fuel-efficient, cleaner engine operation, while
a redesigned cab increases the comfort of the ride.
The Sierra 1500 extended cab is available in 2WD or
4WD configurations. The extended cab has three cargo
boxes: a short 6.5-ft. flush-fender Fleetside box, 6.5-ft
flare-fender Sportside box and a long 8.1-ft. Fleetside
box. In addition, customers purchasing the extended
cab can start with a base SL model or move up to the
stocked SLE and fully loaded SLT models.
Under the Hood
The standard engine that comes with the Sierra 1500
extended cab is a Vortec 4.8-liter V8 with 275 horsepower
at 5200rpm and 285lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm. It provides
plenty of power out of the gate, and maintains a steady
pace at high speeds as well. 5-speed manual transmission
is standard, while 4-speed automatic is also available.
For safety, manufacturers of the 2003 Sierra 1500 extended
cab have enhanced the truck's brakes. The result is
a vacuum boost power, four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock
brake system with Dynamic Rear Proportioning. A front-seat
dual-level airbag configuration is a supplemental restraint
system designed to detect vehicle deceleration and,
based on the deceleration data, provide an appropriate
amount of air-bag inflation.
Adding to the versatility that defines the Sierra series,
an engine upgrade is offered for customers purchasing
the 1500 extended cab. The Vortec 5.3-liter V8 with
285 horsepower at 5200rpm and 325lb-ft of torque at
4000rpm will certainly satisfy.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Cab comfort is the name of the game with the Sierra
1500 extended cab. Standard features are taken care
of in the SL model, while the SLE and SLT models come
with such enhancements as a Radio Data System with XM
(U.S.) or DAB (Canada) interface capability, remote
keyless entry and an AM/FM CD player.
There are plenty of options packages for owners who
like to tune-up their trucks. Comfort, performance and
styling are all ready for personal makeovers.
The 2003 Sierra 1500 extended cab: high-level workmanship
and comfort in a full-size pickup.
