2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab
The GMC Sierra comes in a wealth of sizes and configurations,
each offering a high level of performance, comfort and
versatility. The 1500 regular cab, though on the bottom
rung of the ladder in terms of size, is by no means
last on the list when it comes to quality. In fact,
there are no models in the Sierra series that can be
said to occupy the cellar of the full-size pickup class.
For this reason, and many others, the Sierra was given
'Best Buy' status by Consumer Guide in 2002. With a
number of improvements for 2003, things just keep getting
better with the Sierra.
The Sierra 1500 regular cab has two doors and seats
two or three passengers. Available in 2WD or 4WD configurations,
the 1500 can handle rough terrain when needed. There
are three cargo boxes with the 1500 regular cab: a short
6.5-ft. flush-fender Fleetside box, a 6.5-ft flare-fender
Sportside box and a long 8.1-ft. Fleetside box. With
the choice of an SL model or uplevel SLE model and two
optional engine upgrades, the Sierra 1500 regular cab
adds flexibility on top of all the other reasons that
make it a premiere full-size pickup truck.
Under the Hood
The base engine on the Sierra 1500 regular cab is a
Vortec 4.3-liter V6 with 200 horsepower. It is just
one of the new Sierra engines that use a simpler, next-generation
catalytic converter system with reduced backpressure
for improved durability while continuing to meet ultra
low emissions requirements. Improved diagnostics in
all models reduce the potential for harmful fuel vapor
escape by detecting leaks as small as 20,000ths of an
inch.
For safety, the 2003 Sierra 1500 regular cab provides
a number of security features. The brake system has
been upgraded, resulting in vacuum boost power, four-wheel
disc, four-wheel antilock brakes with Dynamic Rear Proportioning.
A front-seat dual-level airbag configuration is a supplemental
restraint system designed to detect vehicle deceleration
and, based on the deceleration data, provide an appropriate
amount of air-bag inflation.
Owners who want a little more power with their Sierra
1500 regular cabs have the option to upgrade to either
a Vortec 4.8-liter V8 with 275 horsepower or a 5.3-liter
V8 with 285 horsepower.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Redesigned front-end styling featuring new front grilles
play a prominent role in the 1500's new look. Standard
features take care of all the comforts in the SL model,
while slightly more are present with the SLE. In terms
of options, a number of packages are available to address
both performance and convenience.
A full-size pickup built for a range of functions, the
Sierra 1500 regular cab handles almost any challenge
thrown its way.
