2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD Extended Cab
The 2003 Sierra 2500HD extended cab comes with dual
rear-hinged back doors that do not open independently
of the front doors and a passenger rear bench seat,
translating into up to six-passenger seating. In keeping
with GMC's tradition of offering a maximum number of
configurations to accommodate the heavy-duty needs of
its customers, the 2500HD extended cab offers two bed
sizes as well: a short 6.5-ft. bed and a longer 8.1-ft.
bed. This means that an extended cab with a long box
will have the ability to seat six and still provide
a cargo volume of 70.1 cu. ft. Pretty impressive stuff
from a full-size pickup.
Of course the 2500HD extended cab is available in 2WD
or 4WD configurations - anything else would be unthinkable.
For selection, manufacturers also present three different
models (SL, SLE and SLT), each varying in the amount
of standard equipment. To add to the diversity of the
2500HD line, GMC also offers two additional engine upgrades
as well.
Under the Hood
The engine that comes with the 2500HD extended cab
is a Vortec 6.0-liter/ 364-cu. inch V8 with 300 horsepower
at 4400rpm and 360lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm. 5-speed
manual transmission is standard, but customers can also
switch to either 4-speed automatic, 5-speed automatic
or 6-speed standard. For security measures, the 2500HD
extended cab comes with a power, HydroBoost brake apply
system with four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brakes.
Also included are dual front airbags and the LATCH (Lower
Anchors and Tethers for Children) system for child seats.
Customers who want more can choose between two available
engines: a Vortec 8.1-liter/ 496-cu. inch V8 with 340
horsepower at 4200rpm and 455lb-ft of torque at 3200rpm,
and a Duramax 6.6-liter/ 403-cu. inch diesel V8 with
300 horsepower at 3000rpm and 520lb-ft of torque at
1800rpm. In the end, either of the three will have the
type of power necessary in a full-size pickup.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Standard on extended cabs is a dual-zone manual climate
control system, providing individual driver and front-passenger
temperature settings. The SL model starts with the basics,
while the SLE model has such things as cruise control,
power mirrors, windows and door locks and an overhead
console. The SLT trim model provides front seats with
independently heated backs and cushions (three temperature
settings).
Various performance upgrades are available on the 2500HD
extended cab. Also offered is an eight-button steering
wheel control system, allowing drivers to personalize
a number of different vehicle functions. With the steering
wheel controls in place, customers can opt for the advanced
OnStar system as well.
With plenty of versatility and selection on top of
a heavy-duty work ethic, the 2003 Sierra 2500HD extended
cab is impressive for a number of reasons.
