It is a testament to GMC's commitment to provide customers
with top-of-the-line heavy-duty vehicles that as you
go up the size scale, the selection never peters out.
With the GMC Sierra, once you get into the ¾-ton
2500HD series, there are a wealth of different configurations
in both cab and bed sizes. The 2500HD regular cab is
just one such model offered by GMC, displaying all the
power and sturdiness people have come to expect from
the manufacturer, as well as a nice degree of comfort
for the ride.
The Sierra 2500HD regular cab's two-door construction
results in two or three-person seating. With bucket
seats, the number is two, as in place of the bench is
a new center console, which flows into the instrument
panel with a seamlessly integrated, single-piece design.
It includes a storage compartment and power outlet at
the rear, augmenting the standard, dash-mounted power
points on all models. This is just one of the many improvements
you'll find on all 2003 Sierras, and the 2500HD regular
is no different from the rest when it offers enhancements
to safety, performance and convenience features. However,
with its long 8.1-ft. box and two available engine upgrades,
the regular cab is constructed primarily for the hard
stuff.
Under the Hood
The standard engine on the 2500HD regular cab is a
Vortec 6.0-liter/ 364-cu. inch V8 with 300 horsepower
at 4400rpm and 360lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm. 5-speed
manual transmission is standard, but customers can also
switch to either 4-speed automatic, 5-speed automatic
or 6-speed standard. In terms of safety, the 2500HD
regular cab offers an advanced power, HydroBoost brake
apply system with four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock
brakes. Also included are dual front airbags and the
LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system
for child seats.
Customers not satisfied with the standard engine on
the 2500HD regular cab can switch to one of two optional
engines. One is a Vortec 8.1-liter/ 496-cu. inch V8
with 340 horsepower at 4200rpm and 455lb-ft of torque
at 3200rpm, while the other is a Duramax 6.6-liter/
403-cu. inch diesel V8 with 300 horsepower at 3000rpm
and 520lb-ft of torque at 1800rpm.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The base SL has all the heavy-duty accessories necessary,
including front tow hooks, cargo box lights and a full
spare tire. The SLE adds more comfort with a CD player,
cruise control, overhead console and more.
For options, a dual-zone manual climate control system
is available, as are performance upgrades and an eight-button
steering wheel control system. This allows drivers to
personalize a number of different vehicle functions,
and provides access to the optional OnStar system.
The 2003 Sierra 2500HD regular cab literally has heavy-duty
work written all over it, and it's not hard to see why.
