2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500

It isn't difficult to guess what the XL stands for with the 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500. The 1500 refers to the healthy ½-ton weight behind this full-size SUV, and it also serves to differentiate it from the even larger XL 2500. As one would expect, the XL 1500 steps up the power and spaciousness, offering a bigger standard engine and more room throughout the interior. With fourteen inches added to wheelbase of the Yukon and twenty-one inches stretched out of the entire length, the Yukon XL is given its title for a reason. Depending on the configuration of first and second row seats (benches with 3-person seating and buckets seats with 2), the Yukon XL 1500 can hold between seven and nine people very easily.

The 2003 Yukon XL has been upgraded across the board, resulting in greater safety/security, performance, ride, handling and comfort. One such upgrade, exclusive to models with the 1500 XL's standard engine, is the option to add StabiliTrak. An advanced stability system, StabiliTrak's sophisticated sensors tap into the suspension, steering, antilock braking and traction control systems, constantly measuring steering angle, wheel speeds, brake pressure, lateral and longitudinal acceleration and yaw rate (the vehicle rotation rate), such as when cornering

Under the Hood

A 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine, capable of 285 horsepower, is the heartbeat that sustains the 1500 XL. It doles out plenty of power and acceleration when needed, and maintains its pace with ease. 2WD and 4WD configurations are both available, while shifting is taken care of with 4-speed automatic transmission.

Performance shares its priority status with safety. Four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brakes with dual piston calipers and Dynamic Rear Proportioning ensure quick stops when needed. A sophisticated dual-stage, dual-level airbag system is also standard, which uses a sensing system to automatically deactivate the passenger-side airbag under certain conditions to protect children.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Part of Yukon's prized appeal lies in its comfort features. All passengers share in the refinement, with such standards as an AM/FM CD/cassette player, tri-zone automatic climate control, power steering, tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel and cruise control built into every Yukon model.

In addition to StabiliTrak, there are a number of options available. A DVD entertainment system will keep the kids occupied for hours, while eight-button steering wheel controls do the same for the driver.

The ½-ton Yukon XL 1500 has girth and power and comfort all rolled into one.
