2003 GMC Yukon XL 2500
For 2003, the ¾-ton Yukon XL offers GM's revolutionary
Quadrasteer four-wheel-steering system. Quadrasteer
reduces curb-to-curb turning diameter by 20 percent
to 35 feet and increases track width by 5 inches for
greater stability. The result is the type nimbleness
usually associated with sporty little cars, not with
full-size SUVs. In addition to Quadrasteer, the XL has
been upgraded across the board, resulting in greater
safety/security, performance, ride, handling and comfort.
Even larger than the ½-ton XL 1500, the XL 2500
provides extra brawn to match its significant weight.
With up to nine passenger seating (seven with first
and second row bucket seats), the XL 2500 is a perfect
vehicle for large families who like to dip into the
power department. Comfort, durability and safety are
by no means overlooked either, as the Yukon aims to
remain a fixture in the full-size SUV class.
Under the Hood
The standard engine on the 2003 Yukon XL 2500 is strong,
but the available upgrade is even stronger. The base
model comes with a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 with 320 horsepower,
which certainly doesn't hide when it comes to getting
up to speed. The upgrade, however, makes it all look
easy. A 8.1-liter Vortec V8 boasting 340 horsepower,
it is the embodiment of might.
2WD and 4WD configurations are available on the Yukon
XL 2500 and 4-speed automatic transmission is standard.
Four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brakes with dual
piston calipers and Dynamic Rear Proportioning ensure
quick stops when needed. A sophisticated dual-stage,
dual-level airbag system is also standard, which uses
a sensing system to automatically deactivates the passenger-side
air bag under certain conditions to protect children.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
For such a beast of an SUV, the XL 2500 has its fair
share of refinement. All-new seats feature a simpler,
cleaner appearance and thicker headrests improve comfort.
A new driver information center provides nearly twice
as much crucial operating data and places it directly
in front of the driver for safe, easy viewing. Other
highlights among the standard features include AM/FM
CD/cassette player, tri-zone automatic climate control
and cruise control.
The aforementioned Quadrasteer heads the list of options.
Others include eight-button steering wheel controls
with memory, a passenger DVD system and two new exterior
colors: Sandalwood Metallic and Carbon Metallic.
The 2003 Yukon XL 2500 rounds out the Yukon series
of full-size SUVs in a highly impressive fashion.
