2003 Infiniti FX45
The Infiniti FX45 is a new crossover vehicle that is
already beginning to push the boundaries of this relatively
new automotive concept by combining sports car performance
with SUV utility and an advanced all-wheel drive system.
Described as a "Bionic Cheetah," the FX45's
design certainly reinforces this idea. The FX45 has
a 112.2-inch long wheelbase, a wide stance and 21-inch
wheels and tires to create an undeniable look of readiness.
The cabin is moved rearward, set back like a sports
car, with long doors and the tires pushed out to the
corners.
The FX45 is sure to cause a splash when it hits the
market, tentatively set for early 2003. It has enough
interior space for four passengers, power fit for a
racecar and smooth handling to match.
Under the Hood
When an all-wheel drive vehicle has the amount of power
the FX45 does, you know you're in for a treat. The engine
under the hood of the FX45 is a 32-valve 4.5-liter DOHC
V8, estimated to produce 300-plus horsepower and 300-plus
lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed electronically
controlled automatic transmission with a manual shift
mode.
The FX45's all-wheel drive system features electronic
torque demand for exceptional control. 4-wheel independent
suspension with multi-link rear design takes care of
the bumpiest of roads, while 4-wheel vented antilock
disc brakes with Electronic Brake force Distribution
help the FX45 stop on a dime.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Additional exterior features include broad fenders,
large LED taillights, special "Liquid Mercury"
paint and polished aluminum-alloy wheels. Inside, the
FX45 has leather upholstery with polished aluminum accents.
All four occupants are treated to power-operated seats.
Drivers are kept abreast of the vehicle's systems with
an instrument panel that has a large 9.5-inch LCD monitor.
While the driver is busy enjoying the excitement of
the RX45, the front passenger seat indulges the occupant
with individual heating and cooling controls. For rear
passengers, an overhead DVD display and game system
should eliminate any boredom.
The Infiniti FX45 gives you a glimpse of what the future
is going to look like, just as soon as everyone else
catches up.
