2003 Jaguar S-Type reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jaguar S-Type resources:

2003 Jaguar S-Type

The 2003 Jaguar S-Type is the archetypal prestige sports car. With engine options that include a 400hp supercharged V8, which will reach 60mph in 5.3 seconds, the S-Type R can be a rocket. But, as it is accompanied by some of the most advanced handling and control technology in the world, the resulting blend is a powerhouse that will not overwhelm or demand too much from the driver.
In fact, the entire S-Type line offers a relaxed and comfortable driving experience that is at the leading edge. Impeccable road manners, advanced interior environmental control and, to top it off, the highest level of luxury are all characteristic of these superb cars. Also, as a full range of S-Type models are available, this car is accessible for many people. Big-ticket versions like the 400 hp S-Type R are certainly not mandatory; the S-Type 3.0 and the S-Type 4.2 are both described below.

Under the Hood

The S-TYPE line comes with a choice of four engines. The AJ-V6, at the bottom of the scale, is a 3.0-liter that delivers 235 hp and can be fitted with either a new, six-speed automatic or a five-speed Getrag manual transmission. Next in line is the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 that has a beefy 300 hp. The top-of-the-line S-Type R comes with the supercharged version of the 4.2-liter mentioned above.

The entire line is equipped with the very best performance components, including Brembo brakes. They have designed a smart electronic antilock braking system that senses road surface and stopping situations to intervene with the right amount of assistance in a traction loss emergency. Another innovation, the Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) system, optimizes ride and handling. This version of CATS is enhanced for improved stability and comfort, using uprated springs and two-stage adaptive dampers for ride refinement during turns and high speed maneuvers. An electronic parking brake and power-adjustable pedals are also available on the S-TYPE for the first time. In short, the 2003 S-Type enjoys the latest generation of Jaguar's innovative features.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The car's luxurious, sports-style interior features leather-trimmed R Performance steering wheel and sports seats, which are 16-way adjustable, with memory on the driver's seat. The new-look S-TYPE fascia and door casings are finished in distinctive, gray birds-eye maple veneers.

Technology is showcased inside the new S-TYPE as well. It features the latest in leading-edge telematics including an optional touch-screen display that uses a wide, seven-inch screen. Cellular phone and satellite vehicle location technology is integrated in JaguarNet to provide emergency roadside assistance while JaguarVoice provides voice-activated control for main functions of the audio, phone, climate control and satellite navigation systems.
