2003 Jaguar X-Type reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jaguar X-Type resources:

2003 Jaguar X-Type

The 2003 Jaguar X-Type is a 4-door sedan that is affordable enough to be accessible to a larger audience than its big brothers, the XJ and XK. Despite this, it maintains very high standards for performance, safety and interior amenity. Two different engine options, both V6, determine the model types with a 2.5 and a 3.0-liter. These come with a different standard transmission configuration but in terms of interior features they are basically the same, although the 3.0 has a stereo complete with CD player.

A notable feature of the X-Type is that it has Jaguar's innovative Traction 4 all-wheel drive system standard on both models. Capable of handling a diverse range of road conditions, the X-Type will behave well in places where a little more traction is required. Obviously, this is not an off-road vehicle but when rain, snow or ice is a factor, all-wheel drive can be your best friend.

Under the Hood

The two models available for 2003 include the X-TYPE 2.5 with a 192 hp 2.5-liter AJ-V6 engine (five-speed manual transmission standard, and five-speed automatic transmission optional) and the X-TYPE 3.0 with a 227 hp 3.0-liter AJ-V6 (five-speed automatic transmission standard, and five-speed manual transmission a no-cost option). Manual shifting controls on the Jaguar J-gate shifter allows the automatic transmission to behave like a stick-shifter.

Safety is a major design priority for Jaguar and the X-Type is no exception with an outstanding assortment of belt and airbag technologies: three-point safety belts throughout; pre-tensioning front safety belts with load-limiters; dual-stage deployment front airbags; front-seat side-impact airbags; side-curtain airbags for the front and rear occupants; sophisticated occupancy sensors; and, a collapsible brake pedal mechanism. The optional Sport package includes Dynamic Stability Control, which can detect and minimize skid conditions, while the anti-lock brake system is standard.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The X-Type has sleek profile quad headlights, a low-profile chrome grille and the characteristic Jaguar "leaper" hood ornament. Nobody will mistake this for anything but a Jaguar and heads will turn for a look at this sexy sedan.

Interior amenities vary slightly with these two models. The 2.5 comes with only an AM/FM/cassette instead of the standard CD on the 3.0. However, the options available from Jaguar mean great additions can be made. For example, GPS Satellite Navigation, a Sport Package with an interior features upgrade that accompanies the mechanical improvements, a Premium package that takes it even further and other add-ons like a power sunroof or emergency messaging.
