2003 Jaguar XJ6 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jaguar XJ6

Unlike other car manufacturers, Jaguar doesn't come out with a new version of each model every year. In the 34 years since the first XJ6, it has had only six generations, the last in 1997 when the AJ-V8 engine was introduced as one of the engine choices. This makes it all the more exciting when a new version is developed. This past September 26, 2002, at the Paris Motor Show, the seventh generation of the Jaguar XJ6 was born.

As the latest effort from Jaguar, the XJ6 represents the cutting edge of aluminum construction, performance technology and interior amenities. All this in one of the most striking exteriors in the automotive world means the XJ6 is a car that has people sitting up and taking notice.

Under the Hood

The new XJ6 has a choice of four different engines; either of two 4.2-litre V8s (supercharged and naturally-aspirated), a new 3.5-litre V8 and a 3.0-litre V6, all with six-speed automatic transmission. These offer 400, 300, 262 and 240 horsepower respectively. The smallest, at 240hp, may seem like a lightweight but put it in the trim new XJ and amazing things happen because of the lightweight and the supporting handling technology.

This car has everything, advanced aluminium architecture supported by an array of state-of-the-art electronic technologies to assist drivers in enjoying the car to the full. The electronic parking brake automatically engages and disengages, Emergency Brake Assist provides timely, measured assistance from a sophisticated four-channel anti-lock braking system in an emergency when it senses the driver is not up to the task. Traction Control is complemented by Dynamic Stability Control, a safety-oriented system that detects and responds to both oversteer and understeer and intervenes if it detects the vehicle is at the limit of its grip capabilities. Then there is the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that can be set to keep the new XJ at the required pace, slowing or speeding up the car to maintain a set speed and distance behind the car ion front. A feature of the ACC system is Forward Alert, which can provide an audible warning to the driver, even when the cruise control is not operating. Meanwhile highlights of Jaguars Advance Restraint Technology System include sensors that determine the size and position of the passengers and regulate the airbag inflation process accordingly.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The inside of the Jaguar is equally impressive. For a start the multi-media entertainment system allows simultaneous enjoyment of up to three different audio, video or games systems using wireless headphones and screens mounted in the rear of the front seat head restraints.

Include four-zone climate control, leather upholstery, walnut burr trim, multi-way power adjusting seats in front and back and so much more that it would take pages to list and you have an idea of the grace, power and comfort inherent in this luxury motor car.
