2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

As the innovator in the midsize sport utility segment, Jeep continues to offer unique vehicles to its customers. The Grand Cherokee Overland edition is a fine example of this. The most powerful and comfortable Grand Cherokee ever, the Overland has strength, agility and luxury in abundance.

As a four-door wagon with five-passenger seating capacity, the Overland is just as useful transporting families as it is tackling the challenges of off-road terrain. Now offered in five exterior colors, including new Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Overland models have 17-inch satin silver aluminum wheels and functional metallic painted side rock rails. The Dark Slate interior features real Redwood Burl wood accents, premium suede and leather seats and "Overland" embroidered floor mats - proving that style is just as much of an issue as performance is.

Under the Hood

Part of the Overland's appeal lies in its power. Equipped with a 4.7-liter Power Tech V8 High Output engine with 265 horsepower at 5100rpm and 325lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm, the Overland is built for adventure. Overland also features the award-winning Quadra-Drive® four-wheel drive system, which combines the Quadra-Trac II® transfer case and Vari-Lok® axles for the ultimate in capability. Without any driver involvement, the Quadra-Drive system keeps the vehicle moving even if only one wheel has minimum traction.

In addition, Overland provides an Up-Country Suspension group, revised steering gear torsion bar and all-terrain tires. Safety is thoroughly addressed with 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, dual front airbags and ceiling-mountain curtain side airbags.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

With the 2003 Overland edition, the gadgets come in bunches. Rain-sensing wipers do just what they advertise, allowing drivers to completely focus on the road. An Infinity AM/FM/cassette/CD player with 10-disc CD changer provides enough music variety to last for hours.

For owners who need extra towing capability, the Overland is offered with a special Trailer Tow Group, which includes hitch, 7-wire trailer harness, 4-pin adapter and power steering fluid cooler. Additional options are available, giving customers the means to touch up their Grand Cherokees however they want.

To be known as the top-line Grand Cherokee, a vehicle has to blend performance, comfort and safety into a flawless design. In effect, that sums up the 2003 Overland edition.
