2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee resources:

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee has been the flagship model in the Jeep lineup for some time now. One of the first SUVs to hit the market, its trend-setting innovations have kept it at the forefront of the race for years. For 2003, the improvements come in doses, as the Grand Cherokee offers significant upgrades to its suspension system, brakes and safety features.

The Laredo and Limited editions of the Grand Cherokee account for two of the three editions offered for 2003. The third is the top-line Overland, with enough significant features to warrant its own review. The Laredo is the base model, still equipped with all the power, convenience and capability that the Grand Cherokee is known for, while the Limited edition adds a few more standards to the list, raising the bar on comfort slightly higher.

Under the Hood

The standard engine on the Laredo and Limited editions is an efficient 4.0-liter Power Tech I6 with 195 horsepower at 4600rpm and 230lb-ft of torque at 3000rpm. The ability to handle the rough stuff has been a Grand Cherokee trademark for years. Offered in two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive configurations, 2003 models ensure this will continue.

New suspension features offer reduced pressure shocks for improvements in overall ride comfort. Reduced brake pedal effort allowing shorter stopping distances during braking maneuvers was accomplished by increasing the master cylinder output pressure for a "lighter" brake pedal feel

If you want more power with the Laredo and Limited editions, you've got it. Optional engine upgrades are there to satisfy the need for speed. A 4.7-liter Power Tech V8 with 235 horsepower at 4800rpm and 295lb-ft of torque at 3200rpm is available on both models, while a 4.7-liter Power Tech V8 High Output with 265 horsepower at 5100rpm and 325lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm is offered with the Limited edition only.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Performance is a feature that accompanies all Grand Cherokees, as it has for years. On the Laredo, comfort levels are kept high with such standards as high-back cloth seats, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD player and more. The Limited has everything the Laredo does and then some. Some of its additional features include leather upholstery, a memory system for driver seat, mirrors and radio, an Infinity sound system and a trip computer.

The options range from safety to convenience. Curtain side airbags and a tire pressure monitor add to the already secure foundation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, while full package upgrades have been organized to address such things as cold weather, off-road driving and trailer towing.

Quite simply, the Laredo and Limited editions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee can perform with the best of them.
