2003 Jeep Liberty reviews and buying guide.

2003 Jeep Liberty resources:

2003 Jeep Liberty (Sport and Sahara Editions)

With more standard features than the entry-level SE and X editions, the Sport and Sahara editions of the Jeep Wrangler provide plenty of comfort. Designed for those people who enjoy the added convenience of interior amenities, both the Sport and the Sahara excel when it comes to off-road performance and offer a nice set of road manners for less adventurous street driving.

For 2003, an all-new 42RLE four-speed automatic transmission debuts on Jeep Wrangler. Offered on all models, this smoother-shifting transmission provides better highway fuel efficiency and quieter engine operation at highway speeds compared to the previous three-speed automatic transmission. Other improvements for 2003 see the Wrangler equipped with a newly designed interior providing more refinements and added safety to the ride.

Under the Hood

The Sport and Sahara editions have the same aggressive motor. It is a 4.0-liter V6 with 190 horsepower at 4600rpm and 235lb-ft of torque at 3200rpm. Jeep's Command-Trac 4WD system is standard, giving the Wrangler superior traction control. In terms of stability, the Wrangler's strong construction and steady suspension handle all the bumps on and off the road.

Along with stability, safety is also comprehensively addressed. Next generation dual front airbags, driver's side constant force retractor, self-adjusting low-tension three-point belts and height-adjustable shoulder belts are all standard on the Sport and Sahara editions.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

New front seats on all Jeep Wranglers offer an additional 20 millimeters of rearward travel, allowing taller drivers to sit a more comfortable distance from the steering wheel. The Sport model comes with such standard features as fog lights, tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, power steering, front and rear carpeting, mini floor console and P215/75R15 all-terrain tires. The Sahara adds more standards to the list, including air conditioning, cruise control, full storage console, AM/FM/CD player with upgraded sound system, automatic day/night rearview mirror and more.

The standard soft top can be replaced with a hardtop on either model. 4-wheel disc brakes or antilock brakes are optional, as is an engine block heater. Of course, Sport owners eyeing the features on the Sahara can generally pick whatever they fancy and add it to their vehicles.

The adventurous nature of the Wrangler is standard with any model. What the Sport and Sahara offer is an extra measure of comfort for a pleasant ride.
