2003 Kia Optima reviews and buying guide.

2003 Kia Optima resources:

2003 Kia Optima

The Optima is Kia's top-line sedan, offering the complete package of performance, style and safety. Priced below its competition, the Optima is an eye-opener for shoppers in the market for an inexpensive and dependable vehicle that doesn't disrupt everyday living with unnecessary hassles.

The 2003 Optima has four doors and seats five passengers. It is offered in two trim levels: LX and SE. A revised exterior dressing is just one part of the improvements for 2003. Clear-lens halogen headlights, a chrome grille, tinted glass, body-color bumpers and mirrors give the new Optima a fresh, uncluttered appearance.

Under the Hood

There are two engines available with the 2003 Optima, regardless of the trim level. The first is a capable 2.4-liter 4-cylinder motor that delivers 138 horsepower. It is mated to either 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. With this engine, the Optima has a fuel rating of 21/28 mpg (city/hwy) for manuals and 20/27 mpg (city/hwy) for automatics. For more power, a 2.7-liter V6 engine is also available. Dishing out 170 horsepower, it comes with 4-speed automatic transmission and has a rating of 19/25 mpg (city/hwy).

Front and rear stabilizer bars, engine-speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering, double wishbone front suspension and independent multi-link rear suspension are standard. For safety, the Optima provides dual front and side airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The LX model is the less expensive of the two, but by no means does it skimp on the features. Air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with driver-seat height and lumbar adjustment, a center console, cupholders, power mirrors, windows and door locks, an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a tachometer, illuminated visor mirrors, a rear defogger and map lights are all standard. SE models add automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-way power driver seat, heated power mirrors, remote keyless entry, a power sunroof, an Infinity AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a power antenna, an automatic day/night rearview mirror and a universal garage-door opener.

Antilock brakes, leather upholstery and a rear spoiler are options that address safety, comfort and style, respectively. All of this and more with the value-packed 2003 Kia Optima.
