Kia Spectra resources:
2003 Kia Spectra
Kia has a reputation for producing well-manufactured
vehicles and offering them at eye-popping low prices.
The Spectra is just one example. Though its the
costlier of Kias two subcompact cars, it still
rounds in with an exceptionally affordable price tag.
Offered in four-door sedan and four-door hatchback body
styles, the Spectra has plenty of diversity in its lineup.
Sedans are offered in Base and LS trim levels, while
hatchbacks come in GS and GSX trim levels.
The Spectra seats five with ease. For 2003, a host
of improvements make this years model better than
ever. In terms of comfort, the new Spectra adds sound-deadening
measures in an effort to reduce noise levels, and retunes
the engine for an additional 10 lb-ft of torque
Under the Hood
Both the sedan and the hatchback are given the same
dependable engine. It is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder model
that delivers 124 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 119 lb-ft
of torque at 4900 rpm. 5-speed manual transmission and
4-speed automatic are both available. Manuals get 24/32
mpg (city/hwy), while automatics have a similar fuel
rating of 22/30 mpg (city/hwy).
A stiff unibody structure, front and rear stabilizer
bars, precise rack-and-pinion steering, MacPherson struts
and independent suspension are standard result in a
responsive, stable ride. For safety, the Spectra is
given dual front airbags, child restraint anchors and
door locks, side-impact door beams, front and rear crumple
zones and an impact absorbing steering column.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Additional upgrades for 2003 include an illuminated
ignition switch, bodyside molding, an AM/FM/CD player
for all models and a rear wiper/washer on hatchbacks.
The Base sedan and GS hatchback feature cloth upholstery,
front bucket seats, driver-seat height and lumbar adjustment,
center console, cupholders, split folding rear seat,
a rear defogger and more. Uplevel LS and GSX models
add air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, power mirrors,
windows and door locks and a tachometer.
Antilock brakes are available, as is a 6-disc CD changer.
Additional items from the options list include remote
keyless entry and a rear spoiler.
Affordable and well rounded, the 2003 Kia Spectra is
the epitome of a good value.
