2003 Lexus GS 300 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Lexus GS 300

The 2003 Lexus GS 300 is a mid-luxury entry in the sedan class. With more performance and a larger chassis than the little brother, “luxury-entry” IS 300, the GS is all about handling and comfort seamlessly blended in an attractively designed and affordable car to satisfy those with a taste for luxury but an eye for good value.

With a 220-horsepower inline V6 engine, it can reach 60 mph in 7.8 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. The GS 300 features E-Shift controls on the steering-wheel spokes that allow the driver to let the transmission shift automatically, or for a more engaging driving experience, control gear shifting with the buttons. However, even with a focus on performance, the GS sedans present the luxury design and details that define the Lexus brand identity.

Under the Hood

The GS 300 share the 3.0-liter inline V6 engine that the sporty IS 300’s enjoy. The 220 hp is achieved at 5,800 rpm and 218 lb.-ft. of peak torque is available at 3,800 rpm. The presence of Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), delivers solid power throughout the engines range.

Two advanced features optimize handling and help the driver in emergencies and/or poor driving conditions. Antilock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist, a device that reads the signs indicating emergency braking and engages the ABS, and Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), which dampens front and rears wheel slide in emergencies.

Lexus is a leader in safety. What is extra equipment or unavailable in most other sedans, the Lexus cars feature as standard equipment. Cutting edge technology includes three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions, dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and front side curtain airbags. Pretensioners, force limiters and height adjustable anchors all add to front seatbelt effectiveness.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The dual-zone automatic climate control has a smog-busting sensor that automatically switches to re-circulation mode in response to excessive hydrocarbons. This is indicative of the high degree of attention that has been paid to occupant comfort in the Lexus GS 300. Anther subtlety is the Optitron instrumentation that reacts to ambient light levels to brighten or darken the performance-oriented instrument cluster.

A multi-function entry system allows the driver to open all the windows and the moonroof before getting in on a hot day and the perforated leather upholstered 10-way power front seats ad still further to your comfort. This is a comfortable, quiet and environmentally controlled ride where your needs have been comprehensively anticipated and planned for.
