2003 Lexus GS 430

In many respects the 2003 Lexus GS 430 is a true luxury car, despite its lower price point than the big brother flagship model, the LS 430, which claims luxury car status for Lexus. This year’s generation of the GS 430 raises the bar for value, luxury, quality and occupant-friendly technology.

The GS 430 has tremendous power, and can do 0-60 mph in only 5.8 seconds. This is a luxury car with the heart and performance ability of a sports car. A variety of fittings includes details like optional low profile Z-rated 235/45R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE030 performance tires on 17 x 8-inch wheels or GS customers can substitute V-rated all-season tires in the standard sizes at no extra cost.

Under the Hood

The GS 430 shares its engine with the flagship LS. A 4.3-liter V8 engine that puts out a solid 290 hp and 320lb-ft of torque and has Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), it delivers solid power throughout the engine’s range.

Two advanced features optimize handling and help the driver in emergencies and/or poor driving conditions. Antilock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist, a device that reads the signs indicating emergency braking and engages the ABS, and Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), which dampens front and rear wheel slide in emergencies.

The leadership in safety that Lexus is known for is represented clearly in the advanced technology used in the GS line. Cutting edge technology includes three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions, dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and front side curtain airbags. Pretensioners, force limiters and height adjustable anchors all add to front seatbelt effectiveness.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

If you want to establish your expectations for interior amenities in a mid-luxury car, look to the GS 430 for the benchmark. The standard equipment is complemented by both stand-alone options and major options packages.

The sophisticated dual-zone automatic climate control system is combined with leather upholstered, heated, 10-way power seats, genuine walnut trim, a premium sound system, 4-door, two-way one touch power windows with pinch protection, memory settings for the mirrors, steering wheel and driver’s seat, a one-touch power moonroof and an Immobilizer anti-theft system to make up just a few of the standard components in this offering.

Optional add-ons are just as extensive, with satellite navigation, DVD player and climate control seats on the options list.
