2003 Lexus GX 470 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Lexus GX 470 resources:

2003 Lexus GX 470

Lexus has two entries for 2003 in the full-size SUV segment, the luxury and the premium luxury edition LX 470. The Lexus GX 470 is new for 2003, entering the fray between the RX 300 in size, price and capability. In the Lexus GX 470 an innovative full-time four-wheel drive system augmented by an arsenal of dynamic handling technology. This is combined with the luxury appointments and workmanship of a Lexus sedan.

The GX 470 delivers a high level of ride comfort due to a very stiff perimeter frame and high-tech suspension, has seating for up to eight adults and uses the latest in Lexus safety technology. However, in real terms this Lexus is a 4x4 with stellar functional excellence a design priority. It has a 5000lb towing capacity, a total off-road management system with extensive handling and power management technology and plenty of interior cargo capacity with a variety of internal seat configurations for superior versatility.

Under the Hood

The most powerful engine in the Lexus stable is available in the GX 470. This powerhouse 4.7-liter V8 produces a respectable 235hp and 320lb-ft of torque but its real strength lies in its power being available throughout the engine’s range. For example, the GX 470 produces 80% of its peak torque at 1100 rpm.

A five-speed automatic transmission with seamless shift quality is teamed with active TRAC (traction control), Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Vehicle Skid Control (VSC), Adaptive Variable Suspension damping to enhance towing performance and an anti-lock brake system (ABS) that feature Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD). The Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) in the GX 470 include dual front and side airbag restraint systems and side curtain airbags.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Luxury was not neglected in the hunt for the perfect off-road vehicle. The entire Lexus line sets benchmarks for standard interior amenities that the other manufacturers struggle to match. Automatic climate control, heated leather front seating and trim, premium audio system with a six-disc in-dash CD changer, steering wheel audio controls, memory system for the driver's seat, steering wheel position and outside mirrors and an overhead console with integrated HomeLink® transmitter are all highlights of the standard offerings from Lexus in the GX 470.

The amazing options on the GX470 include such details as rain-sensing windshield wipers, power moonroof and a wood/leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and, not to be out-done by rivals, a DVD entertainment system for the rear seats.
