2003 Lexus LS 430 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Lexus LS 430

At the top of the Lexus sedan line is the flagship 2003 LS 430. With the beefy 4.3-liter V8 of the GS 430 but an even higher level of luxury fittings, performance technology and a quality of exterior styling that states classic prestige vehicle, this full-size four-door sedan is a cut above the rest.

New things for this year include standard 17-inch wheels, replacing 16-inch ones from last year. Increased option package versatility means more amenities are available as stand-alone options. On top of this, perforated leather seats are now standard with the front seat climate control option.

One basic model of LS 430 is available but the major options packages, the Custom Luxury Selection and the Ultra Luxury Selection, give full packages of amenities similar to rising trim levels.

Under the Hood

The LS 430 has a 4.3-liter V8 engine that puts out a solid 290 hp and 320lb-ft of torque. This is teamed with a computer controlled 5-speed automatic transmission that will propels this vehicle to 60mph in only 6.3 seconds. However, the technological performance profile does not end there.

Intuitive Powertrain Control works with the electronic throttle control (drive by wire) to smooth out acceleration and Shift Logic Control allows the 5-speed automatic transmission to respond to road grade and acceleration/deceleration activity. Meanwhile, other features optimize handling and help the driver in emergencies and/or poor driving conditions. Antilock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) are both standard. Safety considerations don’t end there. Three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions, Pretensioners and height adjustable anchors combine with dual front variable force airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and front side curtain airbags to make a comprehensive and state-of-the-art safety system.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The major options packages add to an already extensive collection of standard interior amenities. Highlights include a DVD-based Lexus Navigation System with seven-inch screen and voice-command control, front climate control seats with heating and cooling controls, heated rear seats, power moonroof, power trunk and door closers, power rear sunshade, rear seat audio and climate controls, manual rear door sun shades and more.

Add the Ultra Luxury Selection and you enjoy rear seat adjusters with power slide and memory, heat and massage! However, even without these packages, the GS 430 comes with dual-one automatic climate control, 14-way power front seats, trip computer, 7-speaker premium audio and much more.
