2003 Lexus SC 430

With all the focus at Lexus on performance sedans and high-powered automobiles, it is only natural that they should have a sporty coupe/convertible two-seater to tear up the track, cruise the strip or simply to look fast while parked in front of your house. With the V8 engine of the much larger flagship LS 430 sedan, this rear-wheel drive 2003 Lexus SC 430 is a high-powered rocket capable of reaching 60mph in under 6 seconds.

A retractable hardtop that will go from coupe to convertible in 25 seconds, the SC 430 has sophisticated performance mechanics, extensive interior amenities and cutting edge electronics and communications capability through availability of the newly optional Lexus Link System. This system combines GPS satellite and cellular phone technology to connect the customer 24/7 with experienced and trained Lexus Link advisors at the touch of a button or automatically in certain emergency situations. Safety and security enhancements from this system include automatic notification of air bag deployment, emergency service and accident assistance dispatch, location, theft notification and stolen vehicle tracking and even, remote door lock and unlock. Lock your keys in the car? No problem.

Under the Hood

The SC 430 has a 4.3-liter V8 engine that produces 300 hp and 325lb-ft of torque. Featuring Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and teamed with a computer controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with Shift Logic Control, Torque Activated Powertrain Control and an Electronic Throttle Control System (drive-by-wire), this powertrain is designed to optimize power and minimize jerkiness from a standing start to the top end of the engine's range. The car does not demand too much from the driver and a comfortable, relaxed drive is the result.

The racing chassis, 18 inch wheels and fine-tuned front and rear double wishbone independent suspension also contributes to the control of the SC 430. Four-channel antilock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) with Traction Control are both standard.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Lexus has installed climate and audio systems in the SC 430. A Mark Levinson audio system has been designed specifically for the SC 430 with 9 strategically located speakers, cassette and an in-dash 6-CD changer. The advanced climate control system is designed for convertible driving, adjusting airflow and temperature automatically and differentiating between top-up and top-down driving needs, responding to the exterior temperature to help ensure occupant comfort.
In short, the interior of the SC 430 is a showpiece of style and function, the exterior a classically designed and exciting gem of sports-car technology.
